Forums - Gaming - I wish the PS3/360 would have a stand-by/sleep function like the PSP/iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad/DS/3DS.

A feature I absolutely love and must have nowadays is this feature. Being able to go back into a game without going through the whole ordeal of booting the game. It has certainly made gaming easier to get back to. Maybe I'm just being lazy or simply hate the few secs/min of waiting that it takes by booting a game. I really hope next gen consoles would have this feature or if possible the current HD consoles would have it.

What do you guys think? Am I alone in loving such a feature? I think it's one of those unappreciated features that people forget.

I would have said because all of those are using flash methods of using game play, but PSP ... so I don't know why they don't. Maybe it would be hard to do a power down mode.

Turn off your TV, and then back on!

I'm not sure if the DS is really stand-by, just think they shut down the screens. Same with the mobiles.

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

I do that sometimes :| but its not good for really long periods. well the DS lasts really long when you close it even on almost empty.

hmm i guess the difference is that all of those have screens and internal batteries :|

I just go for the TV off option...

The screen component of a mobile device consumes about 50% of its power. That's why they only turn that off.

For consoles, the Wii doesn't consume much, but PS3 and X360 should act like the PC they are and have that sleep mode, maybe next generation.

would be pretty cool (especially for the enduro races in GT5 - come on patch!)
I don't know much about these things but surely it wouldn't be that difficult - similar to a kind of Hibernate or sleep mode in a PC where the current contents of the systems RAM are either kept alive in the RAM in a low power mode or dumped to HDD
would be pretty useful imo
maybe they don't do this for security reasons? idk...

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

it takes 2 mins from power off to playing a game.

Yeah the key thing here is internal batteries, when they run out you lose your progress, i personally would not want my consoles sat draining power from the wall just because i shut them down in standby.

A feature like the PSP GO would be nice tho where you can choose to hibernate a game so you can play something else, and even recover it after turning it completely off and on again.

electricity...switching things off is good for the environment.

Don't really get why people want their home consoles to be like their handhelds and their handhelds like their home consoles.

There's a reason why this feature is used on handhelds more...

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.
