Forums - Gaming - I wish the PS3/360 would have a stand-by/sleep function like the PSP/iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad/DS/3DS.

Next-gen will have these features, at PS4 and X720. Wii U, 'm not so sure, but given it has a mobile screen, it would only be logical to have a sleep function.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

electricity...switching things off is good for the environment.

Don't really get why people want their home consoles to be like their handhelds and their handhelds like their home consoles.

There's a reason why this feature is used on handhelds more...

Unless I am totally missing the point don't PCs already do this? Not just handhelds.

Pushing my ON/OFF button puts my PC to sleep even in the middle of a game. When I turn it back on I can continue where I left.

So if PCs do it so can consoles as there are pretty much the same.

I agree with the bolded bit but this line is being blurred more and more as companies become more enery conscious. By this I mean they are treating electricity the same regardless of if it's a battery or plugged into the mains.

it takes 2 mins from power off to playing a game.

This. Plus, I wouldn't leave an xbox on, even on standby mode or w/e personally.

Yeah the key thing here is internal batteries, when they run out you lose your progress, i personally would not want my consoles sat draining power from the wall just because i shut them down in standby.

A feature like the PSP GO would be nice tho where you can choose to hibernate a game so you can play something else, and even recover it after turning it completely off and on again.

That is what I like about my iPod and the Wii's VC, the save state games go to when shut down. Hopefully next gen systems aim for that and a 30 second boot.
