I'm anti gay pride, for the reason, worldwide, it does us no favours, just gives the homophobes ammo.

This is just as stupid an idea though of course.

They were made to believe that bacause they're black they're worth less than whites, and that they're not even actual humans. White people do not need to be reminded of their histury and 'achievements' through a special event, when they're essentially the mainstream.

And you celebrate your heterosexuality every day, and in several special days (Valentine's Day etc.). Unlike persecuted groups, such as gays, affirming your 'pride' in your heterosexuality is just a pleonasm (heterosexuals are by definition a celebrated group).

Strange, because I could have sworn I've seen gay people around here celebrate Valentines day pretty openly.

Not that they shouldn't be proud of their history, but that they should especially celebrate it. I mean, the whole world today is pretty much run through by the achievements of White Men. You celebrate what is outside that, because it is less common, in terms of cultural impact

Though the White Men built their glory on the achievements of a lot of other races, given Chinese gunpowder, Arab or Persian (forget which) compasses, astronomy, and math

That particular comment seemed quite pointless and out of place (unless that's the number of people victims of gay bashing, case in which it's totally valid). Heterosexuals don't need any pride parades though.

I think it's more of a ironic reaction than anything else. You can't have one without expecting the other side to do the same at some point.

Actually they do. I mean, it's not as if there are any yearly special occasions dedicated to homosexuality, as opposed to the countless ones centered around heterosexuals. Not to mention that homosexuals are an oppressed group, persectured for millennia because of their sexual orientation. The logic behind the whole 'pride' movement is rising up against the persecution, and not being afraid/ashamed of being homosexual.

By comparison, heterosexuals are actually the oppressors. There's simply no logic that could support a 'straight pride' day, other than bashing gays (which is quite clear that it's the intent of those who wanna organzie this, based off of the article). 'Straight pride' day makes as much sense as 'white history month'. Every freaking day is 'straight pride' day!

Really now? Are you really considering things like mothers day or Father's Day to be any sort of equivalent of a 'straight pride' holiday. I'm getting tired of the logic that gay people are this horribly supressed group that need this special treatment reserved for them as the absence of it is somehow prejudice. If I were gay, I would be embrassed about this line of thinking that gay people have to be treated differently whenever equality is deserved.

I don't see why your panties are in a wad over this. Are you saying gays are better than straights so much so that they deserve their own parade but us straights don't? If anything, they are making Romania look and the rest of the world that holds silly pride parades for minorities look bad. I hope this comes to the USA.
