Forums - General Discussion - Sao Paolo's Gonna Have... a Straight 'Pride' Parade? O_o

Just as much the heterosexual people can be proud, so can the homosexual.

As long nobody is provoked, blamed or attacked, nothing wrong with that.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Heterosexuals already are 'proud'. A 'straight pride' parade is pointless... and homophobic.

Well, I agree a "straight" parade is kind of pointless, but I don't see the homophobic part. I would have probably been better to give it another name, though.

It would be like whites celebrating their 'whiteness'. Considering that even the person's who want to organize this are doing it to get back at gays for having so-called privileges that straight people don't, I think it's safe to say this will be the most homophobic event of the year.

Oh boo fucking hoo. its funny how all of them like to talk about equality but when hetrosexual pride parade (as much as I think its stupid, just as stupid as gay pride parade) is in the air ''oh noez, it could make someone think being hetrosexual is good and moral'' .

In short, both hetrosexual and homosexual pride parades are dumb as hell

It's a double standard if you word it like that. The idea of white people celebrating their identity would be laughable in our 'western' world but yet we do allow black people to celebrate their identity.

Although I do agree that a parade of this nature just seems a bit pointless and the reasons for having it are wrong.

Hmm, pie.

Because black people were enslaved and degraded for centuries in this western world. They were made to believe that bacause they're black they're worth less than whites, and that they're not even actual humans. White people do not need to be reminded of their histury and 'achievements' through a special event, when they're essentially the mainstream.

While I think there is a valid point that straight people don't have the same need for a pride parade that gay people had when the parades first started, for the most part gay people in many/most western countries no longer need pride parades either; and it could be argued that in many regions these parades go far beyond what is acceptable or legal and the police should do their job and enforce the law in regards to public nudity and lewd acts.

Maybe in the Netherlands, but I don't really see any other countries where these parades are inappropriate. Western countries aren't as great as they think they are (they're better than other places, but they're still below the desirable standard).

I'm not sure that you mean by desirable standard, but it's not gonna better then this - speaking from someone who lives in the west/Belgium.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

For the most party, systemic discrimination has been completely eliminated in the western world ...

About the only "right" that is being "denied" to gay people in a widespread way is marriage; and more often than not that debate is not about whether homosexual couples should have the same rights as a straight couple, it is about whether the traditions surrounding marriage can be protected. Essentially, it isn't that much different between the debate over a Heterosexual pride parade, because I'm certain that the bulk of complaints over this parade is that the group is taking the name of something that is meaningful to them and warping it into something else.

I worded that badly, I was more thinking of such things as BET and if there was a 'WET' there would, no doubt, be outrage. If we accept one version we should accept the other.

I do not consider it 'white history', I consider it history. That doesn't make me proud of it's dark sides, I'm disgusted by any attrocity performed by one group of humans on another regardless of differences. I personally do not consider things that happened well outside my lifetime with modern thinking. I will not hold a german man accountable for WWII or a southern USA farm owner for what his ancestors did 150 years ago.
