it seems more likely that this event would be just used to attack a certain group of people. i wont say out of hand that this event should not take place but plans for the even should be reviewed carefully before allowing it.

just creating a sexual pride day that celebrates everyones right to choose or choose not to engage in sexual acts with other consenting adults, is probably just a better option all around though.

Indeed, though there is a very high chance that would end in chaos if any radical from either side began to cause trouble. Sadly there isn't any clean cut solution, only partial solutions which will have their share of troubles. 

That sounds like a great idea...just for the fact of all the hot girls that would be there!

While I think there is a valid point that straight people don't have the same need for a pride parade that gay people had when the parades first started, for the most part gay people in many/most western countries no longer need pride parades either; and it could be argued that in many regions these parades go far beyond what is acceptable or legal and the police should do their job and enforce the law in regards to public nudity and lewd acts.

Hopefully the girls run around half-naked!

Actually they do. I mean, it's not as if there are any yearly special occasions dedicated to homosexuality, as opposed to the countless ones centered around heterosexuals. Not to mention that homosexuals are an oppressed group, persectured for millennia because of their sexual orientation. The logic behind the whole 'pride' movement is rising up against the persecution, and not being afraid/ashamed of being homosexual.

By comparison, heterosexuals are actually the oppressors. There's simply no logic that could support a 'straight pride' day, other than bashing gays (which is quite clear that it's the intent of those who wanna organzie this, based off of the article). 'Straight pride' day makes as much sense as 'white history month'. Every freaking day is 'straight pride' day!

Maybe in the Netherlands, but I don't really see any other countries where these parades are inappropriate. Western countries aren't as great as they think they are (they're better than other places, but they're still below the desirable standard).

Sure they're trying to remedy a situation, but there can be such a thing as going too far and overly-victimizing the minorities.

The only people who 'overly-victimize' minorities are the groups who persecute them.

and that the backwards country is the one which has the single biggest gay/lesbo/etc parade in the world :P

It's now also gonna celebrate gay bashing day, so it can't possibly be very progressive.
