Actually, some time after E3 someone posted a link to an interview with Eiji Anouma, he said to be interested in using both peripherals in the next Zelda. To be honest I can't find that interview anymore, I've only found this  ( http://www.zeldac.com/2011/06/aonuma-discusses-skyward-sword-the-master-sword-and-the-next-zelda/ ) The video is not working but they say:  "He mentions he wants to use the Wii Motion Plus along with the Wii U controller for the next Zelda title for the Wii U."

Sword + Shield confirmed!!

As a reply to the bolded part:

Ocarina of Time: Amazing Game - Released 1998

Majora's Mask: Amazing Game - Released 2000

Wind Waker: Amazing Game - Released 2002 (even with Masters Quest)

So that is 3 games, in 4/5 years, on two different systems.

Then you have TP coming in 2006 on two systems... and SS... 2011/2011+

So for me it is drop in quality and rise in development time.

Ocarina of Time took like 5 years to develop. The first time showed was november 1995 to be released in november 1998, three years after announcement. The gap between A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time is like 5 years.

Majora's Mask has almost everything done after Ocarina of Time, so they could go through The Wind Waker, game released unfinished. Also, A Link to the Past is like what? 5 years after Zelda II?

If five years means a great game, I'll wait.

And next year they launch a home console with a main controller that doesn't support proper motion controls. So this makes Skyward Sword the first and probably the last big fantasy game to really use Wii Motion Plus.

The box will include both controller types. It's up to the game designer to utlize the strenghts and weaknesses of each... then the user can decide which is better for them.

But in the case of a game like Zelda you can't simply support both. With the Wiimote you have practically 1:1 control over the sword (slashes at every possible angle), so how do you translate such controls to a normal controller? The game would basically need to be designed as two separate games to support both control options properly and that's not going to happen.

They'll just design the game around only one of these. Most likely a HD, motion plus zelda which u can play away from your TV using the WiiU controller as a screen, or a Wii U screen controlled Zelda with some touchscreen controls. Eitherway, I seriously doubt that there won't be other big fantasy games using Motion plus. Third Parties would want to make Bioshocks or Elder Scrolls that use Motionplus on a HD system, and Move probably on Sony's platform.

Zelda games always took a lot of time and people to develop, nothing new. This kind of games is one of the reasons many still believes in Nintendo quality.

Ocarina of Time has a long development, too. And was worth? Yes. Not only for gamers, but also for the company itself 'cause they have a base for future games (MM, TWW, TP). That's what they want to do, create a new base for future games.

Skyward Sword will be different (at least is what they want to do) and maybe the next games will be like this one.

BTW, I'm interest to know what "could have be done" with those resources as you pointed on the OP.

As much as I love Zelda games, not so much TP (on Wii), I cannot say I am any hyped for SS... Been waiting too long, and even though TP did some amazing things I just did not get the same epic Zelda feeling I used to get while playing previous games. It was Zelda, but not Zelda. However, I have about 0 hype for SS, sadly, and my interest for the series has really died... I used to be very very very fond of Zelda games, probably my most played series of all time, any system.

Wow, never saw it that way. But there are usually 2 zelda teams, right? TP also took away some of the Zelda magic for me, but I'm guessing Skyward Sword will do for Zelda what Mario Galaxy did for Mario so I'm not on 0% hype yet.

They should have kept this game a secret and had it as a launch title for Wii U...now there's not gonna be another Zelda game for Wii U for years

Think about it like this in the time its gonna take for nintendo to make and release SS Naughty Dog will have made and released 3 AAA Uncharted games with a team size of only 85(if they're using the same amount as in U2). That's just sad.

I think that you're right, Rol.

Next time they should just leave the development up to Team Ninja or something.

Man Rol good job on yet another comedic thread. But I will put the joke aside as if you never made it and talk about this seriously.

The thread title, "The Legend of Skyward Sword or how one game took down a whole company" I laughed so hard when I read that. Trying to understand your sense of humour. SkyWard Sword didn't take down anything infact it didn't even hold back Nintendo EAD. Look at how many games are coming out of EAD this year, MarioKart, Nintendogs (Already out) and soon to come AnimalCrossing 3DS. Not to mention if we lump in EAD Tokyo we got Super Mario 3D Land. Skyward Sword didn't prevent Nintendo from developing software just as fast as they always have. Infact thats a ton of games coming out within a year or so of each other all from Nintendo EAD. Lets not forget Nintendo confirmed Pikmin which has also been in development for years at EAD. Not to mention any games in development we don't know of. So Skyward Sword didn't even bring down the developer, its not like Nintendo stopped developing any games to shift focus to Skyward Sword that we know of.

Now you say other games could be made with those 200. Now I hope your not talking breaking it up into teams of fifty. Sure a team of fifty can develop a mediocre game in two years. But do you want four mediocre shovel ware titles or one big budget block buster? I mean look at Pikmin Nintendo said it had a small team working on it, well that was back in 08 its now 2011 and the game still hasn't launched. Smaller teams either create mediocre products or take just as long if not longer then a big budget team to create a product not as big.

Look at big budget 3rd party games, their teams can get over 400. Those games still rarely add up to the quality that Nintendo churns out with just 200. Nintendo is managing their IP and franchises. As Miyamoto said either each game is the best possible product or it shouldn't be made.

Nintendo makes quality products and if the team needs to be 200 people strong to release a quality game within 5 years then Nintendo is willing to devote some resources to it. But guess what that doesn't hamper their game production and I'm sure the games come out profitable.

What would kill Nintendo is your idea of releasing plenty of lower budget games instead of quality software. Nintendo should not cut corners and allow their IP's to have lower quality appearances just so that they can release more software. I'd rather see 6 great AAA+ games a year come from Nintendo then 24 mediocre B+ games from those same developers split into smaller teams.

A drop in quality that you are suggesting, now that could bring Nintendo down! A single big budget game(200 people) not in a thousand years!

Also for the user that mentioned Uncharted only taking a team of like 85, well the game while mind blowing only takes about 10 hours to fully complete (According to VGChartz official stats) while Twilight Princess according to those stats takes over 50 hours, 52 to be exact. Now I have heard people who don't collect anything and just blow through it can finish in as little as 14 hours, just to show you how much more content is in a Zelda title compared to Naughty Dog's best. Theirs so much content it took me over 80 hours to beat Zelda TP collecting all of the bugs along the way.

Fact is Nintendo's products carry an expectation that they will be among the best titles in the world. Sure Nintendo could probably pump out an Uncharted like title every two years with an 85-member team, but fact is their products are way higher quality and content driven, it would be impossible for a team of 85 to create nearly as much content and at similiar quality to SS or even TP!

Exactly my thoughts. That's why I said in this thread that the next Zelda game comes too early. At this point of time a Zelda game should be in full development for WiiU, but now that Skyward Sword will soon be released on Wii, franchise fans will most probably have to wait several years for their first Zelda game on WiiU.
