Forums - Nintendo - History Says the 3ds is Doomed According to IGN

I hope people know that 2-D mario and Pokemon will only do so much and will not bring nintendo 3ds ales through the roof. Also all those systems have one thing in common. They all have 3-D games as their system sellers. Nintendo does not know how to make a game that is 3-D and a system seller expect mario kart

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

Wii Sports and Wii Fit are 3D, but they don't play like the major games on the 3DS.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

The real common denominator is not a quick price drop. That is an effect of slow sales. The real issue is lack of compelling games... specifically 3rd party games.

NES, SNES, and DS all had very good 3rd party games. Wii started off with a lot of 3rd party stuff, even it it wasn't the AAA stuff, but that tapered off in 2009 to pretty much non-existent and thus Wii sales have fallen quickly.

3DS is having the same issue. 3rd parties initially sound as if they were on board. Then it sold like crap. Then they all left. Then the price drop, hoping to get sales. If it gets sales and a solid jump before Vita, it may get 3rd parties and rebound like DS. However, without its Nintendogs or its Wii Sports.... its domed.

I never played wii fit I thought all you did was exercise  Also wii sports is always seen as a game that has little to learn all you do is swing or move the remote in one way. Though it does time to master though

They use polygonal graphics. Also, Wii Sports is just seen that way by detractors, not by the people that made the Wii Nintendo's bestselling home system.

Nintendo DS

Launch: November 2004 - $150
Price Drop: August 2005 - $130
9 month drop: 13%

Looks even more remarkable, if you look at Europe, where it was launched in March 2005.

And then, in November 2005, Animal Crossing Wild World and Mario Kart DS were released, and the rest is history.

Fact of the matter is, killer apps are what sell hardware, and the 3DS will live or die on killer apps, just as every piece of hardware in the past has. This price drop has occurred because the 3DS did not have any early killer apps, and they were asking more than is reasonable for the system. They could probably have successfully dropped it to only $200, and gotten a reasonable bump until games like Mario Kart 7, Animal Crossing, Super Mario 3DLand, Mario Party 3D, etc, get released.

the past isn't always a good way to predict the future, so we'll have to wait and see if ign is correct

What IGN fails to mention is why the Gamecube had the price-drop only 6 months in to begin with. It was in fact in reaction to a $100 ($299-$199) price-drop of the PS2 earlier in the same month of May 2002.

Was Sony's massive price-drop necessary when the competition (Xbox & Gamecube) had both been out for less than 6 months..

lets just wait and see what happens when the games finally roll out

"I don't know what this Yamcha is, but it sounds just like Raditz."

Gamecube and N64 came out after PS1 and PS2 respectively? So there the head start is what really did them in.

Virtual boy had shit graphics and doesnt have Mario kart 3ds andMario 3d as system sellers.

The 3ds dropped its price BEFORE the VITA came out.

For all intents and purposes, the 3ds is still techically beating the Vita which has global sales of 0 as of now.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

IGN gotta be IGN....

so it's really nintendo hate they have, not just Wii hate... interesting for when I look at review scores next gen ^^
