Nintendo DS
Launch: November 2004 - $150
Price Drop: August 2005 - $130
9 month drop: 13%
Looks even more remarkable, if you look at Europe, where it was launched in March 2005.
And then, in November 2005, Animal Crossing Wild World and Mario Kart DS were released, and the rest is history.
Fact of the matter is, killer apps are what sell hardware, and the 3DS will live or die on killer apps, just as every piece of hardware in the past has. This price drop has occurred because the 3DS did not have any early killer apps, and they were asking more than is reasonable for the system. They could probably have successfully dropped it to only $200, and gotten a reasonable bump until games like Mario Kart 7, Animal Crossing, Super Mario 3DLand, Mario Party 3D, etc, get released.
