It better be NDA until release.
After FF XIII, I'm not raising my hopes again.

And to answer your question - I don't think so. FF XII style is as far as they will I go if they will even do that. Not that it's anything bad - XII kills any other FF as far as exploration goes.

it will most likely be NDA untill FFXIV is fixed and out on PS3. They'll then wait a few years so people see FFXIV as the latest FF and therefore allowing it to sell and get subscribers. When FFXIV has enough subscribers, they'll then lift the NDA on FFXV and announce it.

I don't want to sound like a traditionalist (I'm not, I love change), but I think the best they could do would be to make it much like every final fantasy up to IX, caves, dungeons, cities, and various other locations on top of a massive, global world map. the story can still be linear and to-the-point while giving those of us who have been with them as long as I have something to do on the side, exploration to do, sidequests galore. That's what made me fall in love with FF.

I agree with this entirely.

Also why the fuck does everyone want JRPGs to start mimicking Western ones?

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

People here are pessimistic.

Of course FFXV will be as big as Oblivioan and Skyrim. Y'all need to watch this video of the size of the world in FFXIV: http://youtu.be/xkbeYN3MxF0

If FFXIV is that big then FFXV will aim to be that size, too. Just like how FFXII aimed to be around the same size as FFXI.

that's now how it works, dude.  One is an MMO.

It's probably gonna come out for next gen consoles because we still have FFXIV and FFvXIII to hit HD consoles. Due to that, SE will find it "impossible" to create open environments on next gen consoles because of (insert typical SE excuse here) even though Western devs will be creating the most vast, open spaces never seen on home consoles.

I would like it, if it was like the older FFs, with a world map, controlable airship, hidden sidequests (but not in a "must have the players guide to find them" way), an ensemble cast, crystals in some form (loved the Magicite, or the elemental crystals from IV and V)...

As far as the battle system is concerned, I think they were way to quick to dismiss FF XII's battle system. With a few tweaks, I think this could become a really enjoyable battle system if they could just make it a little bit more dynamic: as in: more real time player input, instead of having everything programmed...

Different teams, bro.

The reason that FFXIII didn't use the FFXII battle system is because it was made by a totally different team.

Yeah, ha ha ha!

Different teams... Indeed, NOTHING can be shared from one game to an other. That's why the ATB system wasn't used in IX... because it was used by the team that made VIII... oh, wait.

no, the teams have nothing to do with it.  as far as I can tell what they were trying to do was make a faster, most action-packed version of the FFXII battle system.  However, the only way to make it 'work' was to dumb it down, putting your characters and parties in pre-determined behaviour programs. You could only be one of six gambit sets (sentinel, commando, ravager etc), and even then your party could only be set up in one of six of your decided paradigms.

In essesce, it only gave you the very minimum possible amount of customnization and control.  the game's battle system pretty much got dumbed down to a series of quicktime events. "press this button to change to this paradigm, now change back"  and failing to do so fast enough or not being able to predict the next combination of buttons would result in instant death.  See Resident Evil 4.
