No, Wii won't have another price cut. Should've said that...

I reckon the PS3 will sell much better than the 360, and slightly better than the Wii, this holiday.

Nothing to back it up. Just a hunch.

Sorry just dont see it. Price cuts will not be a differentiator since they will both have basically equivalent cuts. Not 1 single difference maker game like last year with GT5 to create any game based spike.  So dont see how PS3 could even come close to have a much better holiday then the 360 and the Wii wont take off like last year come November to close the gap. Those days are over.

Any equal price cut will favor the ps3, the 360 already has a model thats 100 less and ps3 is the one comming out with the games, 360s got next to nothing this year, there's no way 360 will sell the most this year

haha you forgot that there is plenty of room for a price cut with the Kinect+360 bundles. Those WILL make a difference, especially in the holiday season.
and please don't tell me that Halo Remake, Gears of War 3 and Forza 4 + bunch of Kinect games like Kinect Sports Season 2 and Dance Central 2 will attract less consumers than Uncharted 3, Resistance 3 and Twisted Metal (and other games I may have forgotten to mention at this point).

Everyone who cares about halo or gears has a 360 already, and no I didn't forget it just doesn't matter, there's a reason kinect sales have been droping consistently it sucks people are starting to realize there aren't any good games for it, and from what I've seen there aren't going to be anytime soon, a price cut isn't going to change that, kinect is all MS has to drive sales and it's already running out of steam, and I know you forgot about the psmove, which sales are far more stable then kinects, Sony could cut the price of the move bundle and match it and again any equal price cut will favor the ps3 because it has more features and better games and is just a better piece of hardware

Haha you serious ?

Kinect is selling ~45k every week. Move around 15k.

Even if all people caring about Gears and Halo already have a 360, I asked you why you expect it to attract less consumers than the PS3 even though most of the games coming out for it this holiday are also sequels or games with a not as high selling potential as other blockbusters. There is no software at the moment that will drive hardware sales to unseen grounds.
But what you probably also didn't know. 80.000 people bought a 360 CoD:BO bundle last year (or was it MW2 in the year before ?). Anyway apparently not all people that are interested in CoD bought a console yet. Every big game makes an impact on hardware sales. Even if there are already games of the same series available on the same platform.

You forgot or just didn't know that the holidays are dominated by casual gamers. That is the reason why the Wii was still alive and why Kinect was such a huge success last year.

It's ironic that out of all posts in this thread mine seems to be the strangest or most questionable one.

According to VGC data last week alone Nintendo sold over 400.000 game copies more than their next competitor as publisher (EA). A slow summer week and Nintendo sells more than double the amount of self-publsihed software than the world's 2nd most successful console/handheld publisher for that week. Another figure: In June Nintendo sold - according to VGC data - 2.7 million more games as a publisher than the #2 publisher of that month (again EA). These publisher breakdowns are available every week, but never posted in sales threads and not very popular on VGC it seems.

"Nintendo still in the lead by a country mile, as usual. Nothing has changed in the past five years."

That is what I find funny. Not your comments on SW. Nintendo's position right now is far far different than it was 4, 3... Even 2 Years ago.

The Wii JUST had a pricecut. It just had the sequel to a game that sold over 20 Million... And it's only 4,000 units infront of the PS3. The Wii is currently being overtracked. 99% of people here can see it. The Wii is currently, according to our VGChartz numbers, despite being overtracked... Still half a Million units behind the PS3 for the Year. The Wii has lost the Japanese market, hasn't outsold the Wii all Year. The Wii has lost America to the 360. The Wii has lost the EMEAA region to the PS3.

A lot of things have changed.

its pretty clear to me that the wii is heading for third in 2011 right now and is in a very steep decline.  No idea what the other guy is talking about.

The other guy is talking about sales of combined hardware and self-published software of all systems while the not-other guys are as usual  talking about hardware of consoles and debate things like which console will be in what place for the year. VGC gospel choir: "The Wii, the Wii, it's all about the Wii and its dramatic decline (and let's not forget it's overtracked)".

- Combined console/handheld hardware: Nintendo still in the lead this year - Nintendo sold 11.9 million hardware units in the first half of 2011, Sony sold 9.3 million hardware units.
- Combined published software on console/handhelds: Nintendo still in the lead this year - actually already after six months 8 million ahead of EA, 18 million ahead of Activision, 21 million ahead of Sony, 26 million ahead of Microsoft.

Even though I was told that Nintendo hardware is overtracked and that software doesn't matter in these threads, I repeat:

Nothing has changed. Nintendo is still by far the most successful company this year.

I'm sorry if my view is controversial and I apologize for not following the unwritten VGC community law of only looking at yearly/monthly hardware numbers.

As l'm always open for compromises let's just conclude that the important VGC consensus opinions on last week's sales posted in this thread are "Wii price cut effect already wearing off", "Wii will be 3rd this year (and don't forget it's overtracked)" and "Kratos still rules".

How can Nintendo by the most successful company this year when its facing YOY declines on all its hardware and software?  If its so successful, why is its stock floundering at 6 year lows?  I mean you would think success would entail positives for both.  11.9 Million units sold, there has been a reduction in price for both the Wii and NDS, so revenue per unit sold is less which means Nintendo is not making money (Retailers are either overstocked and wont order more or Nintendo sells at the reduced price).

Its safe to say that both Sony and Microsoft are glad they are not partaking in Nintendo's success...

Well since MS hasnt release Kinect sales numbers since it hit 10 million back in March of course Move sales releases are going to show Move catching up. What happens next week when MS reports thier 4th qtr/annual report and Kinect sales jump?  Also when was the last time Sony releases those Move sales numbers and what were they?  Both 360 and PS3 have exclusives this year, except 360 exclusives are written off because many of they support Kinect so they couldnt possibly cause a casual person to pick up a 360.    None of the big titles for ANY console will make a dramatic shift in console sales. Those days are over for this generation.  Sure maybe a special edition bundle may sell some extra maybe even 100,000 to the collector types, but that is nothing in the whole competion thing at this point.  Finally Blu-Ray players are just to cheap to push someone to a PS3 any more and they will be cheaper this holiday.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

So you have no source and just pulled the numbers out of your ass and it won't jump since we can track it via the bundled game, and 360s games are not good and won't sell alot aside from gears/forza/halo, and not because they are kinect but because they are shovelware and again it isn't any one thing it's everything together, games that someone wants, a blu ray player too, if ps3 drops to 200 even if 360 matches ps3 will sell alot more due to the line up and blu ray, and again why do you think 360 will sell more when they didn't last year holiday season and they had the odds stacked in their favor (a good year for games for MS a bad one for Sony, Kinect release at holidays with tons of advertisement (Kinect sales won't be equaled this holiday) and they even had the new redesign release that year and Sony still tied them now with a bad lineup for them a great one for Sony, Kinect sales slowed and probably a price drop which will go more in sony's favor, how will 360 outsell ps3 this year?

Quite simple. Move is bundled with Sports Champions in the US.

Sports Champions sells around 10-15k per week. 1k in EMEAA and even less in Japan. So 10k in the US. Coincidence ?

Now look at Kinect Sports. It has an attach ratio of over 30% and just like Sports Champions it's the primary game for the device.
Meaning that there are approx. 3k Move sets sold in EMEAA, 1.5k Move sets sold in Japan and let's say 8.5k Sports Champion bundles and another 4.5k stand alone move sets this week.

CAN'T be much more than that. Wouldn't make any sense (given our VGC numbers are right).

Sony is counting every single Move as a sale and not the set Move+PlaystationEye, which is the only thing that counts when we try to define what device is more popular. (it's not more popular when one person buys 2 Moves)

I never said that 360 will sell more than PS3 this holiday season. I'm just saying that it can hold up very well. For every exclusive that will come out for PS3 there will be one Kinect game and I'm saying it again: In the holiday season, casual is king.

It's only bundled in NA and you can get move without it so those sales are meaningless, and even if they weren't you said move sells 15k a week when it's  NA at best, and move is stronger in other regions then NA and kinect is strongest in NA you are making random asssumptions that are almost definately inccorrect like assuming sports champion is going to be as popular for move as kinect sports is for  kinect, so yes it can be more and yes it would make sense, and you forget pseye has been on the market for a long time, some people just need to buy a wand and have move so in other words it's not easily trackable and your numbers might as well came out of your ass because theats how accurate they are.

You are wrong about the exclusive things, ps3 has 15 normal retail, 2 move only and 16 psn, 360 has 2 normal retailer, 8 kinect only and 9 XBLA, Sony has alot more and most of what MS has is pure shovelware that won't sell well

While I agree with your overall point, you missed the biggest factor.  An equal price cut will definitely go in the PS3's favor, but the main reason is because it will be the first time ever the PS3 has been offered for that price (most likely $249).  The 360 has already had a model priced at $199 for the longest time, so a $249 250GB 360 won't have the same impact as the newly reduced PS3.  It happened in '09, it will happen again.  MS would have to cut the 250GB 360 by ~$100 to get an equal or greater bump.

Of course, you are right when you mention features and games.  When you consider that HD TV's and Blu-ray are going to fair quite well during the holidays, it will only help the PS3 that it has a Blu-ray drive.  As far as games go, the biggest help WW for the PS3 is that it has more exclusive releases this year.  In Japan, it will actually be a multi-plat that helps it the most, in the form of FF13-2.  In the end, the PS3 is going to have a very nice holiday season.

And I know some may have faith that Kinect will pull the 360 through to be #1, but I doubt it.  One of the reasons Kinect did so well last year was that it was seen as the new "IT" gaming product to buy for the holiday season in America.  This year, Kinect won't be seen as such.  It probably will be replaced by the 3DS or PSV or both.  Unless, MS aggressively cuts the Kinect by ~$100, which I doubt they will, I don't see it having much of an impact this holiday.

I mention that 360 already has a 200 skew in a ealier post, and that was one of the reasons a price cut would go it's way, understandable that you missed it though, and I hope FFXIII2 bobs XIII was crap square needs a good dose of cold water

All sales are low.
