Forums - Sony - Playstation Plus: One Year Later *analysis*

The thing is do you really want to play the 49 games you got?

That is a key factor in deciding if it is worth it.  You can take something like: http://www.zillionsofgames.com , for $20, get ths engine which plays hundreds and hundreds of games, but if you have no interest in abstract strategy games, then it isn't worth it.  And this talks about a one-time purchase, rather than the need to keep paying to play.  And you also take LittleBigPlanet 2, with its large amount of content also.  If you don't want to play, then it isn't worth it.  Doesn't matter if the price is $X, what is worth to someone is something different.

In this, one has to ask if paying $X per year is worth it, to access the content.  Same goes with OnLive's subscription, or RedBox's game list, or Gamefly.  These subscription models is what closes connects to Playstation Plus.  For me, it isn't worth it.  I see a handful of games I would want to play around with, but not if I have to keep my subscription active to do it.

And then, you get to the console wars perspective.  You get free play online with the PSN, but a large degree of what is offered Playstation Plus ends up being Silver on XBox and doesn't cost a cent.  Everything, even with Silver gets demos, and you also get the discounts.  Indie games are really cheap also on the 360 also.  Gold does offer more, like the specials.  It is just a matter of whether it really is what provides value for people or not.

Im not planning to get psn+ anytime soon. I understand that it is good value and offers a number of good discounts and free stuff. I downloaded the games that came with welcome back program and frankly only played them once. I am a bit choosy about what i play and most of the games were probably not games i would have normally bought and played which means the majority of the free stuff (if i took the psn+) i would probably not play that much. which is not to say that the psn+ isnt a good thing but it isnt for me.

I think it's time for me to bite on the PS+ thing now. The one thing that sort of puts me off is that is discourages you from buying PSN games, as well, you'll then get more months where non of the offers / content is new, which feels like a waste of money. The reality is though I've stopped buying most PSN games nowadays anyway, as quality retail games are so cheap, so hopefully this'll reengage me with the downloadable smaller titles i once loved.

My free months expires on the 5th so I've got to bite today or tomorrow. £39.99 for 15 months is a bargain though in reality... I'd blow that much on jagerbombs in a week lol.

One question... i know I'll 'lose' all my games when my PS+ expires... but if I were to delete say burnout and the burnout month was over, would I never be able to get it again despite not expiring my PS+?

I'm 99.9% sure you can redownload it.

The key to the whole thing is to get the game downloaded in the month where it is free.  Once you have that, you can continue downloading it.  It is when you never once downloaded it that you will never be able to download it again.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

@ Degausser )

Just to reaffirm it, Baalzamon is exactly right, you can infinitely redownload the games for free any time you want (within your subscription) once you have dled them (or even just began the dl) once.

Does anybody have data how many people actually subscribed to the service?
I doubt it will be more than 5 million.

If they had 5 milion subscribbers they would be bragging about it in every gaming portal ;)

I'd estimate the number to be like 100-200k considering none of downloadable games reached milion on psn (afaik)

Well, whatever it WAS at, I'd wager (as sad as this is), that they almost double their subscriptions after giving out 1 month for free.  I'm one of the people that got it because of the free month, and I'm sure plenty of others did as well.

Out of the 70mill odd psn account holders (some of are multiple accounts for the same person), im sure at least a million people would have got psn+. Here in tiny NZ, I know people who have it so im sure there is a reasonable number who have the subscription. Even if its only 100-200k its a reasonable amount of money they will be getting considering the $80 (i think) they would pay for yearly sub.

So if I want to buy the 12 + 3 months sub, i have to let my free month expire before it will let me 0_o.

I had my wallet out, put my card in ready to pay and Sony won't let me. Could well end up I don't bother now, stupid Sony.

You're doing something wrong.  Your 1 month free has no relevance whatsoever on whether or not you can sign up to the 12 + 3 months subscription.  I signed up to the Playstation Plus subscription while my 1 free month was going on, and had no issues whatsoever.
