Forums - Gaming - What do you think of people who Quit Gaming because they want to "grow up"?

You don't grow up if you stop playing videogames.... you actually stop playin' videogames 'cause you grow up (more responsabilities....) Playing doesn't prevent you for growing up.... is the other way around.

I say to each his own

"I don't know what this Yamcha is, but it sounds just like Raditz."

---------Scenario 4 (Happened 7-8 years ago)

I sneaked downstairs at 3am to play Battlefield 1942.

*Gun shot sounds, sounds of grenades exploding going on*

Parents ran downstairs to the living room
"EDMUND ARE YOU WATCHING PORN???!!!"------------

What the heck!? XD

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
Man I love people who argue this.
My sister argues she grew out of Mario, she's like "Joel Mario is for kids", funny thing is she still plays Pokemon and loves the show and the games. I tell her "Many people think Pokemon is for kids" Then we argue about it a while, but she still insists that Mario is for kids and that she grew out of it.
My sister also almost ditched gaming, she said she was to old to play video games and needed to focus on finding a boy friend and doing good at work. Luckily she found a boy friend who loves Manga and gaming so she still plays.
As for other people I know a few who grew out of gaming, they are some of the most immature irrisponsable morons I have ever met. They like to get plastered every week and not just drunk they want to black out. One drinks and drives and another is a pot head. Yah because they are really too mature for video games.
Then as someone else pointed out all those sports moron's. I mean the ones who paint their faces and start riots when their teams lose. Are those guys really more mature then me playing Mario?
Maturity is an excuse people use to justify things, gaming's immature, watching anime is immature, watching 3D animations by Pixar is immature.
But guess what is also immature, drinking irresponsably, doing any kind of drug, driving under the influence, sleeping with every girl you can, getting all painted up for a sports game then rioting.
But guess what sometimes its fun to do stuff other people consider immature. Including game. So no I don't think gaming is immature, its far more mature then getting black out drunk every week....etc...etc...
Because their is a truth in it, that's called the hidden pressure of society.
At a certain age if you don't have a house,don't own a car, don't have a job or are married people will see you as an failure and if you dare to complain about it people will say to you 'If you didn't spend all that time/money in gaming you also could have what we have' and that is mostly the time when people will say time to grow up stop with gaming.
Basically if you have a goal in life the best thing to do is quiting gaming (or any hobby) and work hard for it to reach it because every hour spending on gaming or hobby will decrease your chances to reach that goal. Sure if you want to play on videogames that is fine but don't expect that people will be nice to you when you didn't reach your goal and start complaing.. Society loves winners not losers.
I tell them them there's no such thing as old or young, only thinking makes it so.
All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey
I'm over 40 and I love gaming. I'm also a highly qualified and specialised professional, do volunteer work, have been married 16 years (to a woman who is a non-gamer, though she likes Sing Star, Buzz and Blue Toad), and am doing a reasonable job raising 2 kids.
I met a 60 year old guy who's favourite weekend activity is playing coop Borderlands with his daughter (who live locally) and his son who lives overseas. He's got 2 PS3's at home so that he and his daughter don't need to split screen.
There was a TV news article a few years back of an 80-year old Grandma who loves to play Oblivion on her Xbox 360.
People should know, gaming is grown-up. It's not gaming that is an indication of your maturity, it's the type of game and your emotional responses to gaming that are indicators of maturity.
As for people who think they need to "focus on finding a boyfriend / girlfriend", well that's their problem right there. If they need to "focus" on being of interest to the opposite sex (or the same sex) their problem isn't that that they play video games (or at least it's not their only problem or their main problem).
Give up video gaming because there are higher priorities right now, or because you're just not into it any more. But as an effort to try to find love (or lust) or because it's not mature, that says more about the person than the nature, pros and cons of gaming.
Because other activities that these ten and twenty-somethings engage in are so mature compared to gaming, *sigh*... and so is their behaviour.
It's a foolish statement intended to rub dirt in someone's face and make the person that says it feel good about himself/herself, feel superior and such.
  ...not that I can't understand where it's coming from with the medium being so damn immature and focused on "lulz MACHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! WARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOOBBBBBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! DRUUUUUGZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!". It is stupid coming from the person that says it, who can't see the other brave experiments in gaming and the great storytelling within (Persona 3, Demon's Souls, Zelda and such) as well as the healthy release of tension in it. However, it is NOT without basis. The medium is, for fact, mostly IMMATURE, with the story being fed into you forcefully, with shitty writing and dialogue, and the same cheap tricks that Hollywood "Blockbusters" use to entice you into a story, which work for the duration of the movie, but never cut deep into your psyche and make you think and feel.
You know, after typing all this, I'm really not surprised at people calling gaming immature. That's how the majority sees it, and I can understand that.
You don't hear the same calls about books, music, and films. And that is why because those mediums got over faux-maturity long long ago, with deep and relateable works in any and all of them. Gaming is only evolving into that right now, but it is the hardest medium among the four to get into... and the one that has  to work hardest to portray a story.
At the age of 18 I left my parent's house to go to University and at that point I quit (what's the past tense for that?) gaming. I didn't gave it a real thought, I just did. I had a girlfriend, a job and much to study. And it wasn't about being a poser, I just didn't have the time. And though I would have loved not to miss many games back in the day I am enjoying them now.
It worked out fine for me. I don't think it is necesarily a bad thing.
