And the reason for their failings in this generation is not the lack of games (although the lack of games and the failure have a common cause). It's their arrogance. Sony took everything for granted, charged too much money and cheated their customers (which resulted in them getting hacked). Unless there are some big changes in Sony's philosophy, they won't do well next generation. |
Are people still whining about Sony's arrogance? There is nothing left of Sony's arrogance from 2005/2007 period. When did Sony cheat their customers? What exactly did they do? The customers were never complaining about Sony, it was the little crybaby pirates who wanted piracy on the PS3 that complained. The PS3 hack started because a USB stick was stolen from a Sony worker that enabled to put the PS3 in a debug mode back in august 2010.
On topic: I think next generation will be the right time for Sony to be back on top. If the PS4 gets a good launch price, PS2 launched at 499 euros in Europe, so if they try to release it around that price it will be a good start.

Haha no, Sony's PR is just the same as it's always been.

Complain all you want, but that isn't arrogance, it's the truth. Lets not forget this is PR as well, PR is always a load of trash talking bullshit, something which Nintendo and Microsoft (in particular) are guilty of.
I think the PS Vita could outsell the 3DS if handled correctly, it has the hardware and the price so far, all they need is for the 3DS to contine to fall behind and a great software line-up and they will be unstoppable. The 3DS launch was a huge blunder, and there are still major issues with the design and the console itself, it will be hard for Nintendo to recover from.
As for home consoles, the Wii U seems to be following in the 3DS's footsteps. People will see it as another variation, not a new console, it doesn't look cheap either and so far no amazing titles have been announced or showcased. But then again, the E3 reveal was poor an vague. If the PS4 is cheap and has a great software line-up to then the XBOX 720 won't stand a chance outside of America. As for inside of America, the XBOX brand will continue to succeed off of the momentum of this generation. Like I said before, if the PS4 launch is successful then only the hardcore Gears / Halo fans would stick with the XBOX 720.
In the end this all comes down to if SONY have learnt from their mistakes and if the competition manage to screw up enough. But fingers crossed, the PSV and PS4 will be successful.

No it wouldn't, if it lauched for €499 that would mean it would lauch at $499, £449, AU$599 and ¥45,000 which to the general consumer is a bad price.
Is it just me who is annoyed by the whole 'nine-nine' price thing, I mean why not just go £100/200/300 and so on, every single person in the world knows that it isnt really "Under one hundred pound!" and generally get pissed off with all those 1 pence's (or equivilent) floating around.
Look at what Sony has done being on the bottom.
I like where they are and what they are doing.

Well put.

Sony would be on top if htey didnt come out with a 599$ console...still its the high-priced console in the race...but in the end i dont care cause Sony is "losing" right now but hey only in the sales division...we getting great exclusives non-stop so who cares ^^
One thing the 7th gen should have taught people is that it is near impossible to accurately predict the outcomes of future generations.

Of course - the only reason they aren't on top is because they screwed with PS3 price and rushed the launch with no games (and because Microsoft well played piracy card)
Since this gen everyone will be already used to cell architecture for writing games and they won't need to spearhead new movie format expect competitive price and robust 3rd party support from start.
