Forums - Sales - *Will Sony ever return to the top?*

id dint really read all of the thread

but imo opinion sony will never be as big as it once was mainly in console talk im not that experienced with handhelds but do see PSP2 have a great life and sales

imo sony has completely lost the western audience to MS it will most likely continue next gen and spread to EU areas

sony has also lost many big 3rd part exclusives this gen to MS which further escalates the problem along with that fact that most multis perform and look better on the MS console its only a matter of time before gamers catch on

for sony to get back the western audience and have a better chances of being a dominate console i believe it will need

more good mature rated modern focus exclusive games TPS Sandbox and FPS

i believe it has enough 1st party devs to do this and doesnt need to seek out exclusive 3rd party support

they need to come up with new series for next gen that can go up against MS's games of Halo and gears both feature wise, sales wise and quality wise and scrap some of the old like KZ and resistance, also grand turismo needs work to draw in the western market things like car list and race modes, uncharted though this gen is a step in the right direction

I'd say it's unlikely they do anytime soon. Despite Wii U seemingly moving away from what made the Wii a success, I still think it'll beat the next Sony console primarilly from the huge head start it'll have. 3DS vs Vita will be a close race, but I still think Nintendo edges them out based off their experience in the handheld industry and the seemingly better third party support, as well as hits like Mario Kart and Smash Bros to lift it.

But who knows, Nintendo could easilly lose touch with their fanbase, as Sony did with the PS3 back in 2006. They already appear to be showing signs of that. Nothing is written in stone.

I hope for PSVita.

They could if they price the PS4 competitively next gen. But yeah I agree that they need to come up with a halo type game for the playstation. People often compare killzone/ resistance to halo but there is one thing both of them clearly lack. They both look like other shooters. Halo has some type of neat art style that makes it seem different from other shooters. Maybe they can get an exclusive from Bungie?

the trouble with this data is that as generations go each game takes longer to make and thus be harder to compare TOTAL games. I mean look at ps1 and ps2 for quick example.

ps2 is a bigger success than ps1, yet it had 20% less games. you only listed exclusives so can't determine how many ps3 or the market leader wii has this generation. though to be fair it would be best to IGNORE the wii in this case due to my argument for games taking longer and seeing as Wii is not as huge a jump as ps3 is compared to ps2 or last gen, then the games shouldn't take too much longer to produce.

now lets look at handhelds. you totally ignored before psp/ds gen, but i'm fairly confident in saying that gameboy and those had more games TOTAL than the ds did/does, and pretty sure no matter how successful the 3ds or ngp are they won't see that many games either. it will take MORE time to make uncharted for ngp or super mario 3ds than it does to make sonic or mario on the gameboy or gamegear. and damnit, how come i can't get used to psvita. i don't even for a second hesitate typing 3ds or wii u, or any other console, yet ALWAYS type ngp, and if i do type vita its AFTER Erasing ngp first.   say what you will about "cool" naming or not with regards to every system, the psvita is just not sticking for me.  its so FORGETTABLE

I think its premature for me to speak of who would win when none of the next gen consoles are out. But I do know that they better bring their A-game to get back on top. Nintendo will have the headstart and be the first to launch the next round of consoles. By the time Sony's console hit stores it will most likely go head to head with Microsoft's console. But as always anything possible.

They are already dominating my wallet. Thats good enough for me

i doubt they ever will again, the ps2 and ps1 were affordable and had huge libraries. the only reason i havent got a ps3 yet is the price, and i dooubt i ever will get one because it is still too much. the ps2 was a good price and it had a lot of games that anyone could play if you didnt like sonys first party. im not a huge fan of a lot of first party games for the ps3 this gen, and that in combination with the high price just killed it for me. you can get the other multi plats on the 36 and for a cheaper price, so i just took my friends old 360 instead. i think that sony is now committed to bringing out powerful consoles as opposed to affordable ones, and that is keeping them from being all accessible.

Everyday I'm hustlin'.

Wii and DS owner.

This is pretty hard to predict right now (especially concerning next gen) but I would wager that they will return to the top within the next couple of gens.

Sony has lost money with the PS3. Sony has lost money with the PSP Go. Sony will lose money with the PSP Vita. Sony might no longer have the fight in them for the PS4.
