Forums - Nintendo - Another dry spell for 3DS after Zelda OoT 3D?

About as bad as DS' 2005. Before the holidays, all i got that year was Kirby Canvas Curse and a sub-par Bomberman game. OoT 3D and Link's Awakening DX more or less tops that (though Canvas Curse was pretty underrated)

When exactly is Revelations supposed to land? That might net a purchase if its out of the way of Nintendo games (not counting StarFox, which i don't see the point in getting)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Welcome to owning a system in its launch year!

This, we just don't remember this happens with about every console...

Remembering maybe, but bitching about it is always fun.

Actually, each month I'm set with a great new 3DS game to play.

June:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

July:
Bit.Trip Saga

August:
Cave Story 3D

Not to mention my purchase of Link's Awakening DX is imminent... so chalk up another game to add to the collection. ^_^

Nah, Revelations is 2012 - I think Amazon has it at April 2012 .

Unfortunately the 3ds was rushed to the market for some reason. Terrible launch line up and average online infrastructure.........friend codes again?Come on Nintendo.

That reason is fairly obvious and has V in name ;)

They wanted to get as many units in consumers hands before real competitor comes out and outshines them as posible but it seems they misjudged depth of wallets of their loyal fanbase.

I think you're over-estimating the PS-Vita and underestimating the 3DS in a lot of ways ...

Handheld systems' sales have traditionally been much more software driven than their home console counterparts and I suspect this is because they have traditionally been much cheaper, and people buy a handheld system for themselves while a console is bought for a household. It is very likely that the similar price range and (probably) similar game drought for the PS-Vita in its first year will result in similarly poor sales, and it is very likely these will appear far worse because the 3DS will (likely) be seeing a steady release of strong software which will support strong sales.

IGN just wrote an article about the games from now to September. http://ds.ign.com/articles/117/1177707p1.html There are actually a few good games coming out.

  • Resident Evil: Mercenaries
  • Bit.Trip Saga
  • Pacman & Galaga Dimensions (contains Pacman Championship edition which is pretty good)
  • Cave Story 3D
  • James Noir's Hollywood Crimes (this game looks kind of interesting to me)
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Unlocked
  • Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights (this one also looks pretty good)
  • Driver: Renegade
  • Starfox 64
  • Crush 3D
  • Harvest Moon: the tale of two towns
  • Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection

I'd say this list has a few winners for most people in it.  I'm especially excited about the puzzler titles, Dr. Lautrec and James Noir.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Oh wow, thanks, forgot about some of those. Now there are even more games I need to buy in the coming months (like you, Lautrec and James Noir). Damn.

I still reckon that I'm the only person in the world who's going to buy Driver: Regenade :S

There's more than enough games to last 3DS users until Christmas

Well, not all users.

For me personally, the games that come out this year are enough. But others who play more might feel differently.

I understand that, but people on here make it seem that a console needs at least 2 releases from a mega-franchise every month for it to be good

The 3DS has next to nothing, by comparison the PS3 get at least one title worthy of 'note' per month even during the dry summer period.  During the holidays it will get silly amounts of games, while the 3DS will still only get a select few.

A fair comparison would be to compare PS3 2007 to 3DS now... really you can't compare a console recently launched to a well established one :/
