Nintendo doesn't like to focus too much on the storyline, because the storyline doesn't sell the game, the gameplay does.

Nuff said.

Not really a good reason to completely ignore an important aspect of a game.

but the thing is, story really isnt an important aspect of the game. its game, not a book, gameplay is king while story is really unnecessary, especially for nintendo titles

gameplay is king, but you can always add on that by creating an amazing story, with interesting characters and dialoug. You act like there has to be only gameplay or story. There are games with both yah know.

you dont need dialouge or cutsecenes to have great characters. nintendo has the most memorable characters in gaming, but so many ninendo games forgo story. smb 1 and smb 3 are examples of how mario is a loveable character who grew on so many people, but those games had no convoluted story. they pretty much had no story other than save the princess, some kings are animals, save us. and that was enough to have mario be a cultural icon. nintendo really doesnt need story, they just need good gameplay and awesome universes to set their games in.

I never said they needed a story. They can do whatever they want, but storytelling can be used to add and make games better. And its the reason why i dont finish mario games. Theres just no point. I could play games with fun gameplay, with a story and interesting characters instead. Like bioshock for example.

my b, dont mean to. but i dont see why you need a story to finish a game. the point of finishing a mario game is to explore the games worlds and create your own adventure. a story does help, sure, but it all depends how its told. i feel that backstory should be in the manual or optonal to read and major story developments should be played, not watched in a cutscene. it seems like you just want to watch interactive movies.

Your doing it again lol. And interactive movies are fun, but gameplay is even funner. And gameplay with awesome story and great characters is the funnest. For me anyways. Im done here, its obvious you havent even tried to play games like bioshock.

as far as metroid even goes, they could always just write off what happened or say samus got clones or anything to just do away with anything that would lock up the story. they can also just put a little blurb in the manual and have the next game be a classic style metroid where samus gets a distress call and explores a new planet. they are hardly constrained by the events of fusion because they are nintendo, write if off as if it never happened and follow up with an awesome new game.

the one thing that really pisses me off is this gen nintendo has just shown glimmers of how awesome they can make their franchises. nsmb wii is the best realization of all the new things they can do with, imo, good motion control involvement, great gameplay with fun powers, enough processing power for lots of enemies on screen, which i love, and enough power to artistically represent the levels without being restricted. i just got to the part in other m where you go through the bridge and see the two dinosaur looking things, and those parts where youre not being told what to do explicitly and you can just play are really fun. its just wrapped up in a terrible plot that breaks the flow of the game too many times.

I remember that part. Felt very Metroid. In general I found many of the creature designs in Other M to be fantastic.

yea that part felt really good, i just hope nintendo makes wii u games less story based and focuses on just making the games awesome to play. i have been looking at info on the new kirby wii and it looks really fun so far, i loved epic yarn as well, so i have a good feeling about those games. just playing levels and exploring kirbys universe and powers. i just hope its a little harder lol

I'm not sure why Nintendo gets that pass though. Not all games need to have a great story, but it'd be nice if there was some semblance of one. There's also no reason to devalue a good story. It can make a game or character far more endearing.
