gameplay is king, but you can always add on that by creating an amazing story, with interesting characters and dialoug. You act like there has to be only gameplay or story. There are games with both yah know.

you dont need dialouge or cutsecenes to have great characters. nintendo has the most memorable characters in gaming, but so many ninendo games forgo story. smb 1 and smb 3 are examples of how mario is a loveable character who grew on so many people, but those games had no convoluted story. they pretty much had no story other than save the princess, some kings are animals, save us. and that was enough to have mario be a cultural icon. nintendo really doesnt need story, they just need good gameplay and awesome universes to set their games in.
