Forums - Nintendo - The Nintendo Wii U tablet-style controller will not be sold separately from it new HD console?

i doubt it will stay this way. i think ninty will manage to put out separate controllers. i even heard that they were still unsure about this.

LOL to anyone who thinks the controllers will be only 50 by themselves, no freaking way. If that were the case why would Ninty only limit it to one console right now??? the 360 and Move controller is 50. Hell the damn DS3 is 55. The tablet is way more than those, so why would it cost as most as those???

The screen is not multitouch so it's old tech, and I don't believe the camera will be something extraordinary either. What I'm saying is that the controller could be sold for $69.99 and still profit a lot from it

Miyamoto said in an interview that they are looking for programming techniques to make it possible to play with more than one controller simultaneously.

Honestly this is a make it or break it for me, for Smash Brothers is one of the main reasons I buy Nintendo systems.

Why? You need 4 screens to play SB? It's been said already it will support Wiimotes, this means also the Classic controller.

Ugh. How many freakin' controllers are you supposed to buy? 4 Classic controllers just to play Smash Bros.? That's a bad joke.

Yes it seem like a lot, and actually it is a lot but you could also consider...

-Very often this gen Nintendo has bundleds controllers an other periphericals with games.

-A wiimote+classic controller costs about as much as a dualshock3, add 10$ if you want Wiimote+.

-if you want to add 3 players, you need 3 controllers what's different from any other console?

-You would prefer to spend something like 100$x3 or more to have 4WiiU controllers?

-From what demos and concepts are showing, the console will use wiimotes by the default not only the new controller, so probably a wiimote and a nunchuk will be bundled. (I think we all agree that a WiiUsports game is a given)

-If you are already a Wii owner you already have some wiimotes, nunchucks, and maybe even classic controllers.

-If you consider that more traditional games will come out for the console as well (Tekken for example) classic controllers will be useful for more games.

YOU ARE MISSING THE WHOLE POINT.

Your statements are mostly based on IF's and YOUR OPINIONS. Don't get me wrong here bro you are entitled to your opinion, BUT. $100 for a Wii-U remote? Are you kidding me bro? Just becasue the only thing different between it and a Wii Remote is a screen and slightly better tech? You can purchase a new DS Lite for around that.

If I don't own a Wii, and I buy a Wii-U, I want four Wii-U controllers or at least the option of pluging in Gamecube controllers so that I may play Smash Brothers the way its supposed to be played. Oh and a Wii-U controller would more likely be $50 not $100.

Yes sorry, I'm missing the point. When you talk about the Gamecube controller I agree, but what's different exactly between the WiiU controller and Classic control to play SSB? You have the same buttons. About the 100$ WiiU controller, yes that's a very rough guess, but what makes you think this controller won't be more expansive to produce than a DS lite. It has a lot of things you normally have in a DS: buttons, speakers, wireless connectivity, a battery, a much bigger screen, with a much higher resolution, even without internal rendering it will need a small endebbed processor to manage video streaming. In the end I think it will cost a lot more to produce than a DSlite. That said pricing is not all a matter of production costs, still I think a 70 to 100$ is more realistic than a 50$-70$.

What the hell, I was hoping to play an FPS with four controllers. It would be awsome to play your friends each on their own controller. No screen peaking it would lead to better party games, sports games heck it would be amazing for most multiplayer titles. I am extremely dissapointed Nintendo isn't going all in with this controller.

Now granted I am not wealthy, but I would save up for multiple controls if I had too. The controller is the biggest selling feature of the console. I expected full four player support. Oh well I guess Nintendo can't do everything perfect and I guess they knew the controller would cost a small fortune and that consumers probably wouldn't buy four of them!

I'm going to agree with Padib above and say the Classic Controller, at least when it comes to SSB sucks. At least Brawl gave us the option to use Gamecube controllers.

Processing? Oh please the Wii-U does most of the processing. Now I will give you  that it has a lot of the stuff a DS lite does but the way I think about it, if Nintendo decides that only 1 or 2 Wii-U Controllers can be used with the console, then they will be taking a step backwards. Sorry if I sound blunt but thats the way I see it. Multiplayer has always been  a big impact in my family especially four player and there are many in my family that don't like the Wii Remote/Classic Controller. They do however love Gamecube controllers. This will be a make it or break it for the system.

NINTENDO

nintendo forever . . .

So imagine going over to a friends place back in the day and playing goldeneye with this setup.

One player has a distinct advantage over the others.

Sorry Ninty, If this is your 'masterplan', you've completely blown it.
