Forums - Gaming - E3: Nintendo WINS!

LOL @ the stock argument
Ever heard of R&D costs, marketing campaign etc?
A new console leading to falling stock is not an indication of failing of this console.
Just look at DS launch, Wii launch, 3DS launch...
Ninty won this year, imo, and it's the 2nd time in a row.
But obv business as usual on a fan-site like VG, no fan of one company would admit that another company won.
Saying Ninty is last place this year is like saying Ninty won E3-Wii-Music or E3-pacman, but who cares?

Nope Ubisoft won with 8/10

MS, Sony, EA and Nintendo were 7/10

I agree with Ubisoft winning.

Ubisoft: 9/10

Sony, EA: 8/10

Nintendo: 7/10

Microsoft: 5/10

I really wasn't overly impressed by Nintendo. I saw no real reason to own a Wiiu, and there was nothing at all shown for the Wii. I will admit, however, that the 3DS looks brilliant in the near future.

Are you looking at things from E3... or just the conferences... cause even during the conference they showed off the updated Skyward Sword that looks brilliant, as a Zelda fan I'm down right giddy, vs last year I was just excited.  As for other Wii stuff you can check out various sites, new stuff was there, mostly on the show floor, and directly announced via Nintendo's website (they've been trying to push their website so this info was probably exclusive to that venue for that reason)

And I'll say it a lot over the next couple of weeks, but Nintendo missed quite a few boats with their presentation, the WiiU will entice people like me who actually think up possibilities with a device that goes outside the box, but much like the DS announcement will confuse others until they get their hands on it plus some creative software to go with it.

And yes I'm with you on the 3DS, I'm really excited for it as well, Smash Bros (for WiiU as well), Super Mario 3D, Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario Kart, Star Fox 3D, eShop going up, new trailers for everything (check em out if you can it really has sold me on a few games), Tekken 3D (like seriously for some strange reason the 3DS has become the home for any fighter with a tournament following you can think of save Mortal Kombat), new RE: revelations info and trailers on eShop, a new IP from Konami that's like Professor Layton (http://ds.ign.com/objects/095/095583.html), more Shinobi info, and a new Ace Combat game... and most of this is all coming THIS YEAR... I'm stoked and have no problem waiting on Skyward Sword now, OoT with all it's new content will keep me from losing my patience.

Nintendo gave the best show, I am a Nintendo fan I admit, but Sony & Micro gave nothing except the surprise of the price of PSP successor, that came from Sony, Zelda gives new adventures & Mario doesn't have a story reworking them every-time to keep them pleasant for players is what Nintendo does best, But I agree Nintendo needs new IP'S , Super Mario Galaxy & Metroid other M where the only new IP'S, They have Xenoblade & last story in Japan, but they need to release world wide, New IP for WII worked wonder like WII sport, WII play....ETC, Still for hardcore they need new IP'S
I will purchase the new system as Nintendo is enough for me to use it, but they will need to fight hard for 3rd party support, if they are going to get it.

No the drop in stock was a direct effect of the poor conference, it happened directly after the conference and 5x as many Nintendo shares change hands that day, than on a normal day.

The Cost of R&D and marketing, may effect there profit loss forecast but it does not affect there share price, share price is affected by what people are willing to pay for them, and after revealing the Wii U, that was alot less. People wanted rid of there Nintendo shares and they just wernt worth as much, because so many people wanted rid.

Oh, just the conference. I haven't seen the show floor

They did show Skyward Sword, very briefly. Five minutes at most.

I'm not saying that the Wii U is a bad system. It's certainly an intriguing idea. It's just that their enormous launch exclusive was an open world Lego game, and most of the games they showed were third-party multiplats; if anything, it's missing quite a few of those. What happened to GTA5 and BioShock Infinite on Project Cafe? What happened to all of the supposed third party exclusives? It wasn't really Nintendo's fault entirely. It was the fault of Nintendo fans for pretending that the new Wii would be extraordinarily advanced, would have a low price, would have a brilliant first party lineup from day one, and would steal all of the HD exclusives.

I'm sure they do have some first-party stuff in development, but we didn't see it, so that's a loss for Nintendo.

They did win, but it still could have been better.

Nintendo had the best conference that's for sure.

The Microsoft conference was catastrophic. The Sony conference was boring and has only one eye opener (price of vita). The Nintendo conference showed many system sellers for 3DS and the new console with a great bunch of third party support. The Zelda opening was great too.

Unfortunately you can't use the stock market as a proper indicator. The same thing happened with the Wii 5 years ago and yet Nintendo still trampled its competitors by an embarassing margin. If you're going to spout economics actually read up on how the stock market works (Matt Taibbi would be a good start) because trust me your head would burst like a ripe melon. For crying out loud the WiiU just made the front page of USA Today while Sony and MS weren't even mentioned. And like I've said before "but I don't expect 'hardcore' gamers to accept, admit, or understand that"

E3 sucked overall. And gamers lose  in the end. Bad E3 is bad.

Except for ps3 games =D. Dont make me go list wars on you.

But there was nothing therer that was a surprise from Sony, and nothing really "wow" factor. Not that I'm trying to say Nintendo's conference had anything special either.

I'm thinking that if I got a Wii U (which is a stupid name btw), Id never use the controller, I'd just use Wii remote controllers or a classic controller. I hate tablet pcs and I think that controllers should melt away when playing a game. The 2nd screen thing should have been a seperate accessory, not built into the controls. Of course, I was annoyed when the Wii showed its controls originally too =P

To be fair there's no proof that it won't have any of those, it's just that's what we were expecting to have confirmed right out of the gate. I'll again draw the comparison of this E3 to Nintendo for E3 2009 for Microsoft. E3 09 was proof of concept for Natal/Kinect, E3 2010 was where they really showed the product as it would be and the real support it would get, and likely that's what we're setting up for next E3 from Nintendo, or perhaps even sooner if Nintendo's having any intermediate events (it's a damn shame that they never show up to TGS and always just phone it in to Gamescom, otherwise we could set a more definitely timeline for when we're gonna find out more about this)
