Why are you parrying and dodging? If you are doing that much you are obviously donig something wrong. With the proper signs and bombs you don't have to worry about any of that and you can just wade through anything. Also the knives are the absolutely best way to murder any boss since they don't seem able to be parried at all. The only thing that blocks them is the enemy's Quen.

Pausing action in an actoin rpg breaks the action, surprising isn't it. If you had more buttons would you have to pause the action? No? Is this a tacical or an action RPG? It doesn't come down to preference, it comes down to what the game is and what concessions the game makes. My personal preference is that I don't pause even in tactical RPGs, but in those when I need to it does not break the flow of the game in any way. Meanwhile I am FORCED to pause in an action RPG, and that is unaccepable. That wouldn't be a problem on a keyboard, but it's a huge problem on controllers.

Edit: Just to sum it up. Does the game have the option to be played as I wish? On a controller just about all the time, it is no. Meanwhile with the functionality of a keyboard, most of the time, it is yes. Therefore a keyboard is better than a controller. You can also objectively measure just how much more functionality a keyboard has than buttons on a controller by simply counting them.

I hope you find a game that is to your liking.

Might I suggest one of these - http://www.freetypinggame.net/

You get to use every key on the keyboard to win!

Don't worry I have found plenty. Incidentally very few of them could be used with a controller without sacrificing gameplay (incidentally Witcher 2 is one of those who have been hamstrung because of a controller mindset and I still like).

But I am glad that you at least didn't argue that a keyboard has more functionality and therefore superior for action RPGs and just fell back on hilariously bad arguments.

You're trying to debate opinion as if it's fact.  I prefer to use a controller, therefore there is no hamstringing.  No argument I can give will ever convince you since you obviously want more buttons and I couldn't care less.  The game plays great.  So how can my opinion be wrong?  You don't like it, I do.  End of discussion.

I'm not going to sit on my couch and game with a keyboard on my lap or try to make a makeshift table.  Controller works great.  Game is awesome.  I never feel like the controls are holding me back from doing anything.

My only issue is you say the design is shit the UI is shit etc etc.  Everything is shit with you.  I just think you're full of it.  The design is fine, your taste is just different.  The game i getting great reviews and so far most people prefer to play it with the controller.  You're the only person I've seen asking to have a key for every item in his inventory because you like to play in easy mode and pretend you're playing it on "hard".

No it is not an opinion. Let me walk you through it. Are there more keys on a keyboard than on a controller? Does that mean you just have LESS options with a controller, objectively?  Meanwhile what are the objective pros of a controller?

It objectively comes down to the fact that a controller gives you less options and less functionality and does not provide you with anything in return. That is a very basic definition of inferior right there.

P.S. Having a pause in game is extremely scrubbish in an action RPG, but I like your spin there.

Edit: The UI is also objectively shitty. If it take 3 clicks to get to any section of the UI, then there is something wrong with it (or it is designed for an inferior control mechanic, as is the case here). Or the inability to sort the inventory, seriously I had that shit back in the 90s. The UI in general is extremely, painfully consolified (meaning, shoehorned into a controller scheme, not a proper one). THe only thing that makes this a more of a PC game is the difficulty, some of the weak themes, and the ability to have a pretty different playthrough each time. There is almost no pampering for the scrubs.

I agree with you there, seems keyboard users were an afterthought. You can't even move quicksave (F5) out of the way if you want to use F1-F5 for the spells.

It would be nice if there was a way to speed up or skip all the meditation animations. It takes so long just to drink 1 frigging potion. At least a shortcut to skip directly to the potion screen.

More then 1 quick slot is definately needed. Putting items in pockets is not all that useful if you can only have 1 active pocket at the time... display them at the bottom of the screen with key assignments.

Loot and swing need a different button. When you're not standing in exactly the right spot (due to momentum carrying you a little too far) you swing your sword instead of looting, placing you even further away.

Same for space bar to roll and loot all. Even worse when the loot menu doesn't come up while you expect it and you roll away instead of looting.

Maybe they should play WoW for a bit to see how a pc interface should be done.

And wth are qte doing in an rpg. Just let me block and swing myself in fist fights.

I don't think the UI was consolified though, There is no way you can read all that small print from the couch. It is cumbersome and the slow scrolling text is extremely annoying. Full screen UI please, or make it fit. I don't want to wait 10 seconds to see what ingredients each formula I want to buy needs.

I hope so because playing on PC Sux so much

Mouse wheel support? Moving the bar scrolls through the actual selections too, not just themoving it up and down.

I also completely forot about how dumb fistfighting was. Hell I thought it was a little dumb in Witcher 1, but this one is even more hilariously bad.

Pretty much stopped reading right there.  Learn what opinion means.

I don't want to sit on a couch with keyboard on my lap.  Therefore, in my opinion, the keyboard is a much less desireable option, no matter that it's missing 4 freaking hotkeys.

You're also the same person who said this earlier in the thread:

"In fact one of the biggest problems I had with this game is the whole retarded UI where I can only have one sign primed and can't quick switch between them right in combat with keyboard shortcuts."

Of course when I pointed out to you that there are in fact hotkeys for every sign you completely ignored it instead if admitting you were wrong like a man.

The mouse wheel handles the item selection. I mean the information in the panel you get when you select an item. Maybe they could make it work by holding shift down and the mouse wheel will scroll that window instead of the main selection. As it works now you select/highlight an item and have to wait until the description slowly starts scrolling to reveal the ingredients.

For example I select a diagram for a new sword and sit their waiting, ok 20 iron ore, 5 wood planks, come on hurry up, 20 endrega teeth, anything else.

Agreed. There are times when a keyboard is advantageous, and times when it is not, just like everything else. That said, I partially agree with Vlad that they could have stood to allow you to bind signs to more convenient hotkeys. Minor quibble, though.

Exactly. Controllers are better and with some games and keyboards are better at others (especially games with fixed points) or cursors you can move with your mouse. Some games are better played with arcade sticks, waggle sticks and racing wheels. People need to learn that gaming is more diverse than ever and there are so many ways in which to play a game. The Witcher 2 plays so well with a controller pad, so whats wrong with that? That dude Vlad seems to have a real issue with that.
