Forums - Sony Discussion - SONY: PS3 over 50m units sold and 8m MOVE units sold.

well done sony, i can recall people on here saying it may do a dreamcast, its come a long way and will only get stronger.

the lesson for sony is launch at 299 next time round, just to think wher ps3 would have been by now if it had launched at 299. its entirely sonys fault imo

Not necessarily. Hardcore gamers who buy it to play core games may not bother with two controllers (though I myself do have two). also no one has mentioned the nav controller. Is this included in the sales figures or  does it not count?

i know this is a ps3 thread but with ps3 at 50 million(great milestone) 360 is probably at a liitle over 53 million right now. does anyone know if ps3 has gained on the 360 since last official numbers. damn its taken 5 years for ps3 to gain 3 million by that it could take another 5 until they are even.

i think the averge move owner has about 2 moves so that would put the unique users at about 4 million, which i think is decent.

What I find more important than the HW numbers, is the SW numbers...

We have undertracked SW by like, 100 Million units? Really?

Not really 100 million, I guess that 30M copies sitting on shelves currently is possible, (a bit high maybe), but the problem is that VGC can't track games precisely (1st point), it doesn't track small games (2nd) It can't track somes coutries (3rd) and it's too difficult to tell which game is undertrack and which one isn't, but 100m units on shelves, that's like 1 game on 5 that didn't sell... Gaming industry would shit on the PS3 if that was true.

Meh, I mean 100 Million sitting on shelves

But yeah, quite obvious that PS3 SW is undertracked quite vastly.

Gratz to Sony, the PS3 deserves this!!

GT5 undertracked by 100 million...confirmed!

LOL

Maybe they accounted digital numbers too or it's just way undertracked.

So 8m Moves controllers sold to retailers.

Because move is so fragmented it is hard to get the overall picture.

In total how many PS3 eyes are out there? Obviously more than 8m as you need it for move and I bought the Eye ages ago.

Then again how many homes have two controllers? Impossible to tell.

Is anyone buying the navigation controller?

I suppose as long as the retailers buy it Sony are happy enough but it would be good to have an idea on the PS eye and navigation controller sales.  Not really important but still good to know.

The ps3 couldnt have launched at $299 it would have been a totally different machine.

I was also going to comment on the ROI, but I decided against it, most people think HW sales = success.
