Oh, I figured. This was written more for the benefit of posters I actually respect. You're just the convenient launching point.

No, you're just preaching to the converted.

To be honest, the only head scratchers from Capcom (besides their outrageously ridiculous PR statements towards the Wii) include:

  • Street Fighter 4 being on everything from the n-Gage to the original GameBoy and not Wii
  • Spyborg's radical change in development due to "the fans".
  • A Dead Rising port...with fewer features than the original
  • Never releasing a proper resident Evil after RE4, RE:UC, and RE:DC sold a combined 4 million copies...that's right, a port and two spinoffs. In fact, they spent time creating everything BUT a new Resident Evil. They ported RE1 and RE0, both available last -gen, with no changes.

And I wonder, why did you say Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles flopped? According to Capcom, they expected it to sell 800,000 copies lifetime...right now, it is at 770,000; 96% of the way there.

I notice that very early on in a title's sales career, especially on Wii, people are quick to scream bomb early out of the gate...but then after a while when sales build, the haters suddenly disappear.

  • Madworld was the biggest bomb of 2009, but now that its past 600,000 no one says a thing. Don't even bring up Vanquish...
  • Wii owners don't appreciate art like Muramasa and Okami, but Muramasa outsold Odin Sphere and Okami sold more than the PS2 version.
  • The Conduit supposedly made HVS no money, but it outsold 40% of the PS3 FPSs and 50% of the 360s...no bombs there...
  • NMH was too hardcore for the Wii, but when ported to the PS3/360 they sold no better in Japan, even with additional features. Don't bother combining sales either, or I'll slap ya.

The Wii ain't perfect, there have been tons of bombs, but the 360 is no saint either. It really bothers me when people pretend like its software sales are always of some God-like caliber.

I'll touch on some of that...

SFIV wasn't on every platform other than Wii so why complain?

Who cares about Spyborgs? Was anybody expecting that to be good?

Dead Rising for the Wii was built with an inferior engine and on a technically inferior console. I'm not sure why they bothered. They should have just made perfect ports for PS3 and PC.

People keep praising RE4 sales on Wii, but lets bear in mind it launched for only $30 and its higher quality than the typical Wii game. Its the best reviewed core title on Wii period. Hence, a gem surrounded by crap.

I highly doubt 800K was their life time expectation. Maybe that was a quarter expectation. For the record, RE:DC has been out for 72 weeks and its struggling to 800K. While RE:UC hit 800K in 13 weeks. Hence, RE:UC sold a shit ton more units at full price. Face it, RE:DC was a flop.

Madworld hit the bargain bin after a few weeks. They probably hoped it would move 600K during the holiday at full price. Why else did Sega pull back support on mature Wii games?

Are you boasting that Wii's big exclusive, over hyped, and heavily marketed shooter, The Conduit, sold more units than mostly crappy and obscure HD FPS games? It should also be noted you aren't combining the sales of many of HD shooters.

In regards to NMH, late ports sell worse. Very few late ports sell better than the original.

Muramasa definitely got more attention than Odin Sphere. And it might be because the Wii lacks niche title compared to PS2.

The Okami data doesn't include WW sales for either PS2 and Wii. But once again it stood out more in the Wii's lack luster 3rd party library.

I'm not complaining about SF4; I'm saying that the fact it was on PC, PS3, 360, iPhone, 3DS and not Wii is merely a headscratching decision.

Why they even made Spyborgs is another one.

You mention the selling potential late NMH ports, but take credit away from the fact that RE4 sold nearly 2 million in the same position.

As for RE:DSC, no one is willing to pay any longer for on-rails experiences if they are not at budget prices. Even though it "only" sold 770k, that is much higher than the average allowed for the gen nowadays, and yes, their LIFETIME figure was a projected 800k. Besides,  gamers were promised a traditional experience and got yet another ORS. Lost Planet 2 bombed too.......

Capcom themselves confirmed the better sales performance of Okami; Muramasa got more exposure but so what, the PS2 userbase was just as large if not larger than the Wii's in the same timeframe.

Conduit was average at best and still managed ~500k somehow. Goldeneye was a better game and blazed past 1 million.

Like I said, for your Madworld, I give you Vanquish, which goes to show the sales performance of that game is not console dependent, but rather quality dependent.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

^^^^ and RE4 sold much less than the PS2 version. Pugsley point is that most ports sell less than originals. Matter of fact if you wanna be really technical. the Wii RE4 was a port of the PS2 one, (same content) so it really sold less than the version it was based on.

UC sold better than DS chronicles at full price, why were people willing to pay full price for that and not the "better" one later??? THats a hell of a drop, more than half, and where did they say they would promise a "real" RE game?? Cause if people bought those rail shooters for that reason then they deserve to get "ripped off"

And Homefront did better than Conduit, for FPSs this gen Conduit did terrible, most HDs do better than that. Haze did better than that and got worst reveiws. I like GE but taking 4months to pass the million point is not Blazing not even close. Most HD FPSs would have done that in half the time. Hell KZ3 did that in about a month

On top of that the Gamecube's userbase is a small fraction ont he Wii's userbase. RE4 also came late in the Gamecube's life, but early in the Wii's life. Hence, the Wii version has been pushed on the market longer.

The iPhone has a half assed port of SFIV, its not relevant to me. The 3DS port was a great opportunity because launch titles tend to do very well and so far its doing very well. Its a top selling 3DS title and should pass a million in the not to far future.

NMH is a stand out title on the Wii and it came out years ago. There are enough great core titles on HD platforms to make NMH get lost easily. Did I say late port never outsell the original? No I did not. Also the Gamecube wasn't a very popular console. The PS2 got a late port that outsold it easily.

Now you're attacking RE:DC and telling me what audiences want? You were defending its sales before.

Exactly, Okami and Muramasa got more exposure on Wii. As I said before the PS2 had a ton of great core titles so its easy for Okami and Odin Sphere to get lost in the fold. I didn't even know about Odin Sphere until recently.

Conduit also wasn't competing with a countless great shooters. People were hyped about Conduit because that's a lackluster genre on the Wii. The HD platforms have a great new shooters like every month. The not so good ones get lost in the fold.

What about Vanquish? It didn't hit the bargain after a few weeks like Madworld. Its also didn't get marketed like Madworld and its selling better in the same time frame. And since they went multiplat it'll surpass Madworld quite easily.

@ mr. pugsley  i dont like to get into the whole RE4 thing, but Ninty fans put up that Wii port on a pedestal. The Wii version sold less than most retail games and was early in the consoles' life. The PS2 version was sold at full price toward the end of its life and still sold more than half of what the Wii one did. Looking at it like that its no wonder why some Wii fans act like the PS2 version doesnt exist, it makes the wii version look a little less impressive. I could say the same for Okami and Odin Sphere they were like the last games to be released in PS2's life cycle and didnt get any kind of attention. Especially Odin Sphere, Muramasa & Okami Wii got way more

Your language is confusing, but I think you mean "double." If so, this is false. This website's figures on the PS2 version are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. Unless Capcom somehow sold about a million more copies of the game than they shipped.

I remember posting on the wall of the PS2 game a looooong time ago that it was OVERtracked by at least 700,000 units.

^^^^Wheres is your proof??? Both of you, i find it rather convinient that the PS2 version is overtracked, but no other version is. I dont think it is. The gap between the PS2 and GC user base at that time was huge. YOu think people were going to buy a console to play one game??? Nope. Maybe the Wii version is over tracked. If it is overtracked by 700,000 then it still outsold GC & Wii versions

Capcom has posted their shipment figures for all 3.  The PS2 edition has shipped fewer units than VGC says it sold...not possible.  The other 2 were very close to their shipped figures as they should be.
