Forums - Sales - WW Up - Wii is Last 1st time Ever.

Exactly.. It's funny that some people are actually making a big deal out of this.. To put it in perspective how irrelivent this sales margin is, Wii currently has sold 34 million MORE units than its nearest competitor..

Assuming current trends continue, (being generous here) Xbox 360 MAY make up roughly 2 -3 million over the Wii by this time next year. That's over the course of an entire year! And Wii will still maintain a 31 million lead, with all consoles being a whole year older, and more gamers moving on..

And that's also assuming Wii will not make up most of the deficit during the holiday season, when they generally shine.

It might be irrelivant for this generation but if the momentum carries through to the next gen then nintendo could easily find themselves back in 3rd place.

Microsoft done a great job with the original xbox, it gave them a foot in the door and by releasing the 360 so early they really took a chunk of the PlayStation user base.

Nintendo got lucky with the Wii, it was the right product at the right time and because of that it goes against every sales trend in video game history. When has the market leader ever dropped so low compared to its competition? I can’t see Nintendo maintaining its position as market leader next gen, especially with Microsoft/Sony now having their own motion devices.

Also I doubt very much the 3DS will reach the heights of the DS, its higher price point and stiffer competition from NGP (hardcore) and iPhone (casuals) might find it being a jack of all trades and master of none, although I still expect it to sell well and be a success overall.

As for you last comment I don’t think its safe to assume the Wii will automatically be the no.1 seller this Christmas.

360 #1...Yes! I am just happy that nobody can use that statistical tie crap LOL(I don't care about PSP &DS.)

Overall, the 360 does deserve it...I don't own one but Microsoft has done an amazing job with Kinect making it the next big thing. I have played it and it is fun...I just think they should upgrade it a little bit. If it could read fingers and other things...well, it could be even bigger.

PS3 is doing good though 360 put a gap in between them this week. Japan #'s impress me.

Wii is doing fine IMO considering it is now facing Move and Kinect and has had nothing big since New Super Mario Bros. Wii and nothing new since Motion Plus. Wii should be able to hold its own until Nintendo acts with a Price Cut or the Vitality Sensor.

Technically, that phrase can still be used.

I'm pretty sure this is the most important point in the thread.  I call STATISTICAL TIE! *runs out of thread*

For 1st place or last place?

Im just saying it was in the right place ay the right time.

The 3DO could have been the PS1 but came to early and the Dreamcasts online service preceded XBL but i don't see anyone playing Dreamcast2 this gen. Sometimes products come out too early for their own good.

Nintendo struck a cord with people in the Wii, good for them. Its just a shame they seem to have fumbled the ball like they did in the 90s between the snes-64 transition.

Well since everyone already owns a Wii, of course it's going to stagnate ;)

They did not "fumble the ball." It is the natural console lifecycle. The only reason Sony and MS are not seeing identical declines is because of the slim models and Kinect extending their lives.

There is a thing called oversaturation. If you obtain super fast record amounts of sales, eventually you will fall as quick as you rose. Eventually you will reach a limit in how many people want your console. It just happens. Sony and MS will soon reach that point as well if they haven't already. It's just that the rises have been less drastic for them, so the declines will be as well. The higher you reach, the farther you have to fall, it's just that simple.

The fact that you are even comparing drop in Wii sales during February of its FIFTH year to the mistakes made between SNES and N64 transition is laughable..
