Shipment numbers are accurate, meaning if VG chartz was accurate they would be consistent with Sony's (and MSes and Nintendo's) shipment numbers, trying to be accurate in every single region is just stupid if you don't have accurate sources in the region, more accurate to make an overall estimate

There are a lot more ps3's on the shelfs then xbox's. So that means there where more xbox's sold because they where out of stock everywhere. I had to drive to hours to get a xbox before christmas. all the while ps3's where all over the place.

SO THE NUMBERS ARE RIGHT.

PS3'S ON SHELF = NOT SOLD.

XBOX 360 OFF THE SHELFS AND NO WHERE TO BE FOUND = SOLD

GET IT.

You obviously don't understand the meaning of the word consistent

Yes you are right. they are not very consistant and I did miss that I Guess. Was making a point  to people that the sales are  not off as of now. They are now most likely right on, after a bunch of adjustments.

They aren't accurate though 360s are way too high and ps3s are about right, it's hard to tell if they do have 2 million on shelves it's too high but I doubt they have that much on the shelves

well PS3 is 1.55m on shelves(between VGC and Sony shipment)

Like I said if it's 2 million on the self VG charts numbers for ps3 are too high, or it could be right on, or they could be a little low, can go either way for ps3, but 360 numbers are too high, either way you can't use vg numbers to determine the number on selves if you are trying to see if VG chartz is consistent, but it seems close enough for ps3

when i said that?

was using it in the general it's mathematically impossible sense

i just post the data

Those are excellent numbers for all 3 consoles.

I'm most impressed with the PS2. It's flat YoY at 6 Million in its 10th Year. Amazing. Still another few Year left in the machine yet!

As for the 15 Million target. It will be close, and I think they will need to stuff the channel to hit it. I think the numbers COULD potentially be higher than last Years Quarter after all the shortage stuff we got from Sony/Retailers/Etc, but I don't think it will be high enough to hit 15 Mil without a bit of stuffing.

Hopefully these numbers will stop people screaming undertracked too. It's quite obviously not being undertracked.

Where is this stuff about PS3 shortages coming from? Other than DS I haven't seen anything in greater stock than PS3 in local stores (Walmart, Best Buy, Game Stop) over Nov-Jan and unlike X360 / Wii I don't think it had any widespread shortages in the run up to Christmas even with large discounts offered.

PSP is seeing shortages in Japan - it dropped way faster than it should have in early January but I see no evidence of PS3 shortages - anywhere. Its the opposite in the USA actually - those $50 / $100 gift card deals in December were put in so last minute that they didn't even make the retail advertisements that the stores use to draw people in for shopping, but they assured PS3 wouldn't drop too much over Dec 2009. Something like 15% of PS3s sold in the USA during December 2010 were price induced - figures would have been 1m or so, not 1.2m without the discounts. The deals have actually continued for PS3 into January 2011 which means some stores simply have too much stock left over after Christmas.

Source, NPDs profit Q3? (in $)

Its on the front page in my article. $576m or something. I've been using 81.5 Yen per dollar for all the data thats come out.

At the end of 2010 there were PS3 shortages here in Europe in various countries. But the only home console in huge overstock was actually the Wii based on what I know (albeit limited retail data).

However PS3 stock at retail seems to be at an excellent level again in January 2011, post-holiday season.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Source, it was early 2010. Feb/March of the Quarter was affected. It's why we saw minimal boosts in the West from games like FFXIII and God of War 3.

More links if you Google "PS3 Shortage" or whatever.

Edit: At least, these are the shortages I was talking about as to why it could possibly (Although unlikely) be up on Q1 of 2010.

These threads are always entertaining, especially when people accuse Sony (or MS/Nintendo) of lying to shareholders, lol.

Anyway, impressive numbers for all three consoles and some decent profit for the division. Wasn't expecting PS3 numbers to match 360 numbers and software sales seem to be very high (GT5 effect?). Also not sure how Sony plan to sell 2.8 million this quarter. Are they releasing PS3 in new regions/developing countries that we don't know about?

I might have missed this in this thread... But the PSP just passed 70 Million units shipped. That is fantastic.

And... As an added bonus.

PS1, PS2 and PS3 have now surpassed 300 Million units combined. Sony have broke the 300 Million barrier with Home consoles only. With PSP it's (obviously) at 370 Million.

In Home Consoles, PlayStation won the Year... Selling over 20 Million Consoles. (With handhelds it's a totally different picture)

Since PS3 Slim released, the PS3 has outsold the 360 by almost 5 Million units too. I think?

This has been an excellent Year for Sony.

If you look at VGC yearly sales we have PS3 at 1 M (after US and JPN number will be added) for January so something like 2,5-2,8M is possible.
