Forums - Nintendo - Why is Nintendo treating Europe like that?

In Sweden the current price is ~2800sek (£260)...For comparison, a DSi XL costs 2000sek (£190) and a PS3 costs 3000sek (£280).

Ugh...

SAd thing is i might actually buy it at that price... :(

Hell I would buy it if costs 350£

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

The UK price from GameGear is £196. The best by far, but still abnormally high.

I like the look of the system, but at that price...no way.

By the way, £196 is $313. $250 is £156.

Why do all three manufacturers (though I suppose Microsoft less so than the other two) feel the need to profiteer in the UK like this? We have a lower average wage than the USA, and higher taxes.

Also higher taxes means that implies to the product. Though i think 180 pounds is doable imo.. euro pricing was expected though, they're always similar to the american price. I think a fair price would be 200 pounds since the wii was 200 pounds(after a price raise) compared to 250$ in the US

Maybe they try to prevent the rest of Europe from buying from the UK. With the weak pound and almost free shipping combined with the fierce retailer price wars, buying from the UK has usually been notably cheaper than from a local store in the last couple of years.

Looking at the Yen per pound graph here:

http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=GBP&to=JPY&view=5Y

You're certainly right about the pound being weak - the price needs to be high to give the same number of Yen. I knew it had weakened, but I had no idea it had tanked like that. A pound is worth just over half what it was worth three years ago, in Yen. But the USD isn't doing much better.

And yet they're getting lower prices!

Expect a price of € 249,90. Manufactures convert the Dollarprice 1:1 in Euro normally. But fu§$, UK is really screwed up.

Aus will be about $350. so on part with UK.

So now the UK would import from Germany or somewhere else in Europe. Though I'm sure the price will lower to equal or even lower the European price.

I myself am still waiting on information regarding the region-locking, would buy a 3DS from the US (just like I did with my DSL).

You say tomato, I say tomato

Does anyone know if the thing even comes with a game for £219? I mean that price is pretty... exhuberant alone but if you need to spend £250 to actually have a game to play on the thing, I just can't quite fathom that. To give anyone outside the UK some perspective, the original DS launched at £99, the Wii launched at £180 (With Wii Sports), You can currently buy a 360 with Kinect and Kinect Adventures for £219 or a PS3 with a new game for £229.

My gut feeling is that Nintendo are going to be selling these things at a loss in the USA for $250, so they're trying to balance out that expenditure with profitable sales in Europe / Australia. I'm sure all will be revealed in the upcoming months, but these prices are beyond what anyone I've spoken to can believe :(.

Oh well, it does make you wonder the next round of consoles are going to cost if we're now at $250 for a handheld without a game 0_o.
