What is it with 60GB PS3's????

They're great - built to handle everything it seems.  Guess they removed the bit that does this in the slim - must be kicking themselves!

Actually, I'm not sure why it only seems to brick Phats, but you don't want to be bricking those - assuming you have the BC as well as the extra ports, etc.

Yeah they also seem to be the most brick prone out of all the PS3 models.

Hahahaha that's Karma for everyone! I'm glad they're being bricked.

Karma? this has not anything to do with karma, modding a console is a risk that lies in you and only you, everybody knows that...

Hacking your console so you can pirate games (which is stealing) is wrong; having your console brick because of it is justice. Therefore Karma.

Yeah, I *rarely* believe anyone that comes on here trying to defend themselves saying they only use it for homebrew, or they're only demoing the game, or they're going to buy it later, they'll buy it once they finish the game, or any of the other bullshit excuses.  I accept that people that only use things like the Jailbreak for homebrew exist, I just don't often believe random user is one of them (for instance, I actually believe Euphoria). So yeah, karma is a bitch.

Deprive developers of their hard earned money, you lose your PS3.  I am all for that.

Except it's not karma, because karma is not a simple, one-to-one correspondence of reward or punishment, and what happened here was a direct warned consequence of an action, that's what i'm saying, they knew that using the tools comes with risk and the responsibility is on them...

I personally defend console hacks, but not for piracy and i have the same reason for both statements: I am a systems analyst and designer, specially software, and before that i was a full developer (i still throw some code but as a hobby, it's not my full job anymore), and i was involved with systems security for long, i even used the ECDSA (and because of that i still can't believe how Sony did this astronomically wrong)... And i've seen how piracy has changed our jobs first-hand...

That's why i like when a lot of leechers act as guinea pigs and brick their systems (and this is not new), because most of them are doing it for piracy, homebrewers are usually more cautious than that...

Yeah I totally agree with you man. 99 out of 100 times people are just doing it to avoid paying for games and will never buy the game they pirated.

I can see how the 1 out of 100 people would be "testing" the game and buy it later. I kind of do that with music. I'll download it on frostwire or watch it on youtube and if I like enough songs by that artist I'll buy their CD.

Watching on you tube is not illegal though, they get revenue from ads.

Yeah I meant the part about downloading on frostwire is illegal though.I do it but I've bought countless CD's based on artists i downloaded songs from illegally.

when you look at other consoles/handhelds there are really good homemade programs which add new features. in that regard i support the modding scene. i would love to see a better file explorer, internet browser or video codec support for ps3. i wouldnt care less if its from sony or made by homebrew programmers as long it increases the experience i get out of it. but the only thing you are able to do with ps3 cfw atm is to back up games and unlock trophies for free. that sucks and isnt the original purpose. i dont support that at all!

Develop some useful programs and you got my support, otherwise: sony sue the hell out of them!

They're definately the most prone to YLOD that's for sure.  I've experienced that myself.  In terms of what you get though they're worth the risk.  I'm curious why the custom firmware only struggles with the phat's though vs the Slim.  Sure there's extra stuff in their but the firmware for each is the same so I wonder what it's tripping over in the phats.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Well my PS3 phat YLOD and when I get it up and running (hopfully) without having to pay 150 bones not including shipping, I probably would mod it for homebrew.  I already bought a replacement PS3 so I see no reason not to use my already useless PS3 for something other than what Sony purposed it to be.  Do not need to pirate games or other such things that ruin the gaming industry but having a complete media player without the limitations sounds good.

lol, thus one of the reasons that I keep my Phat 60gb PS3 legit, and PAY for my games.  Serves those suckers right.

Good. To hell with jailbreak users.
