They're great - built to handle everything it seems.  Guess they removed the bit that does this in the slim - must be kicking themselves!

Actually, I'm not sure why it only seems to brick Phats, but you don't want to be bricking those - assuming you have the BC as well as the extra ports, etc.

Yeah they also seem to be the most brick prone out of all the PS3 models.

They're definately the most prone to YLOD that's for sure.  I've experienced that myself.  In terms of what you get though they're worth the risk.  I'm curious why the custom firmware only struggles with the phat's though vs the Slim.  Sure there's extra stuff in their but the firmware for each is the same so I wonder what it's tripping over in the phats.
