Microsoft, in advance of The NPD Group's December report, has noted that it sold 1.9 million units of the Xbox 360 in December, which is the biggest month in Xbox history, helping to solidify the company's biggest year in Xbox history as well.

$6.2 billion was spent on Xbox 360 products during December, and Microsoft said Xbox 360 was the only console to show year-over-year growth at 42%, making it the fastest-growing console in 2010.

As was already indicated by Major Nelson earlier, demand was quite high and supplies were tight. Microsoft said that "in order to keep up with holiday demand in December for Xbox 360 and Kinect, Microsoft pulled units from its January and February production."

The company continued, "Despite this, Microsoft still experienced out of supply situations in late December, and it expects supply constraint to continue in January and February as it works with retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments to replenish the channel."

On the software side, December saw three of the top ten console game titles on Xbox 360: Call of Duty: Black Ops, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, and Kinect Sports.

About a week ago, Microsoft announced that it had reached 50 million Xbox 360s sold, while Kinect hit 8 million in just 60 days.

Are they serious ?? To cover demand that led to a....sub-2 million December they had to "pull usits from their January and February production " ?? Pathetic ...

They started to run out around December 20th

I wonder how much lower Wii is.  It has some cushion, so it'll def be over 3mil I hope.  PS3 should definitely be above a million.

Wii could be around 2.9M - 3.1M down 700 - 900K, PS3 could be below 1M, maybe 989K, but it's more likely to be over 1M.

Wait, the ceiling was 3.2M based on Nintendo's press release, right?

ahh yes maybe, 2.9M - 3.1M is a good possibility,  EDIT: 3.3M changed to 2.9M - 3.1M

So Wii and PS3 down from last year.

I expect PS3 to be sub-1 Million and Wii to be in 1st place by god knows how many.

I doubt that.  I won't be that low.

Wii could be around 3.3M down 510K but still over 3M, PS3 could be below 1M, maybe 989K, but it's more likely to be over 1M.

Wait, the ceiling was 3.2M based on Nintendo's press release, right?

I think minimum was 2.3m, if I remember correctly.

thanks aegies

So EEDAR was spot on on 360...I hope they weren't spot on on the rest.

Surprised why?  The stock tracker had bestbuy, amazon, buy.com, target, j&r and kmart out of stock of most of the bundles of xbox basically for the whole month of December.  If they were out of stock, so was everyone.

Not sure why anyone should be surprised when it was pretty obvious that they were horribly out of stock.

Where did I say anything about being surprised?

Edit: I only pointed out EEDAR being correct on their 360 figures and being Nintendo biased I hope their Wii figures are wrong.

Come on, Kowenicki its a great number but its at least a little bit dissapointing, just as the Wii figure in Dec 2008 was, 2.1m after a 2m November. If there were three systems over 2.5m in Dec the USA market would have been damn close to 2009 levels for revenue. Now thats not going to happen. Especially if Wii / DS are under 2.5m too, althoug you have to figure at least one will top 2.5m.

Sony sells more in the other territories ( with Japan being the huge differential  factor here) plus it's not like sony didn't screw up last year , loosing the momentum they should have  in the beginning of 2010 in the U.S market .

Someone in the NPD thread stated that Pachter (I know) has said 360 outsold PS3 2:1 so... You never know.
