3DS keeps becoming more and more unappealing to me. Definitely not going to be picked up by me early on.

Of course I will still pick it up at some point, but when it becomes cheaper.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

i went from being excited to interested to now just not caring. Ninty's whole online is screwed up, and instead of taking an opportunity with this new hardware and fixing it, they keep their crappy friend codes??? Call me a troll all you want but no, I think ill wait for the inevitable 3DS lite. battery life i can deal with, PSP isnt that great in that regard. region locking??? stupid but ill play ball. friend codes, sorry thats where i draw the line. Alright Sony what crap do you have to try to get my portable gaming dollars??

No offense, but if this was a deal breaker than that is kind of sad. In fact two things you described haven't been 100% confirmed, but it seems like you look for features over the game library. Not saying features aren't important, but they usually don't result in going from being excited about a product to not caring, namely the features that are the same as previous effort (DSi).

Given I shouldn't talk, since I am usually sold on all consoles when they launch (excluding the iphone), to not caring for them in couple of months...and regretting them when slim comes along.

Of course this also probably means no account system like PSN/XBL/steam etc and any DLC games you buy are stuck on that 3DS and never on a different 3DS, so if you ever wanna buy a new 3DS model or if it breaks or something....you lose them all.

This pretty much, especially since while I still haven't had the need for a second home console of a kind (none has died so far), I've bought multiple revisions of both the DS and the PSP, still own them, and they are also still working.

I would definitely want any bought DLC on any of the handhelds owned by me, and Nintendo currently not only doesn't offer that, but also needs me sending them the hardware to just transfer it.

Overall frankly the blehs in the final product are piling up a bit too many for me at this point.

*dissapointed :(

I'm buying the 3DS anyways cuz of all the games, but it doesn't make it any less dissapointing

***Sigh***

Wii could work without friend codes with minimal efford put in, and I hope 3DS devs follow Capcom's footsteps.

But, overall I'll still believe: Game Center>>>>>>>>>>>>>3DS Online Sistem

This is a bit discouraging, but as others have said hopefully it is a universal system. It seems that in other areas of online/communications Nintendo is taking big steps with the 3DS - the shop channel will be better integrated,  have demos, customer ratings, etc. The communication features with Street Pass also seem pretty cool, so it seems strange that they are apparently dropping the ball here.

I wonder what Nintendo's strategy here is. As far as I can tell, they're starting out with a portable console that will be high in price ($249.99 minimum from the japanese price), so it makes sense that they would be targetting the hardcore gamers for early adopters, as they are more likely to fork over that much money for a dedicated gaming system than the average consumer. They have a lineup to appeal to this audience as well, but why implement friend codes when they know that the same audience is so much against that?

I know they're not aiming strictly at hardcore gamers, but Nintendo isn't really making it easier for themselves here. That's my thoughts anyway.

To a lot of people online gaming is important a major part of the gameplay, with friend codes you never get a real community for a game and just a bunch of randoms forever.  Friends codes very likely means they will enforce that non-communication crap the Wii has unless someone is on your list already too.   These things can detract heavily from a game and lessen the enjoyment a lot.   For me it isn't a deal breaker but it likely means I will not bother with games that have an online focus because the quality of it vs PSN will detract fromt eh gamemore than it adds.

Oh let me clarify, well I do think this is a very bad move on Nintendo, I just find this strange that it is the "deal breaker". Also I do agree on your statement on friends code, hopefully Nintendo at least takes one step forward by making it universal, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It is a real pity that Nintendo really tries to not "copy" competitors because they could learn a lot from Microsoft about online

I Small part of me just died :(
