Sales. Absolutely sales. Not even a second thought about that. All the legendary games became legendary not through amazing reviews but through sales. If a game you don't like sells amazingly well, it's time to reassess why you don't like it. If a game you like flops, it's time to reassess why you like it. Sales are facts. Reviews are opinions from so-called "experts". Unless by reviews you also mean customer reviews which I tend to trust them more than publications' reviews.

Wii Sports: greatest game of all time

Do you doubt it? Perhaps. Perhaps I doubt it too. Perhaps I also doubt Super Mario Bros, Tetris, Duck Hunt etc. Did everyone think of them highly when they were first released? I doubt it. We won't know what way will Wii Sports go. Not yet, at least. Perhaps in 10-15 years, we might have a better idea of Wii Sports.

And here is some extra food for thought. Highly regarded games get a LOT of clones. Super Mario Bros, Street Fighter II, Tetris, Grand Theft Auto and yes... Wii Sports.

Super Mario was a great platformer, Tetris was a great puzzle game, and Duck Hunt made great use of a light gun on consoles. Wii Fit = waggle

For me personally, it depends on what the genre for each game is.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

None of the above since none of them are a strong indicators for whether I'll like it or not.

Neither. Game footage FTW.

i couldnt care less for sales. GTA? RDR? COD? Dont like them anyway, so yeah..

i'd say Genre> Storyline> Own Opinion after Demo/Ingame Material in geleral > Recommended by Friends > Reviews > Sales

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

Neither. I trust my interest and gut feeling a lot more.

neither. I never trust reviews and if i trusted sales then would mean that i think Resident Evil 5 is a good game(OPINION). I generaly trust my own interests as well as what i think of gameplay footage and some previews.

Sales are a horrible indicator of quality. As a general rule, people are stupid. They will buy whatever crap is marketed well. Not that reviews are a great indicator, but a few select sites and publications do have good reviewing processes. With reviews as well I can estimate whether I'll like a game or not based on the text (if the review is good) rather than purely on the score. For instance, I bought The Witcher based on a relatively negative review because the explanations given suggested it'd be something I'd enjoy.

As a general rule people tend to know what they like better than people who complain about their purchases on the internet.

Tease.

Don't think that's true, and they're still stupid :D
