Forums - Gaming - Buying used/Renting games = Piracy

I dont know if every Gamestop works the same way but at my local one what i do if i just wanna play a game and not keep it i just buy it used, play it all through for about 6 days (you have a week after that you cant return it anymore) then return it and get all my money back.

Damndest thing.  I replied to this thread when there were no posts.  I come back here and there's no sign that I ever posted anything.  I didn't say anything profound, though.  Just that Gamestop promotes games on day 1, sells new games, yadda, yadda, and that rental places have to pay a premium (Gamefly/Blockbuster).

You completely forgot to mention the reason why used copies and renting exist in the first place: they work as safety net for the consumer. If those two didn't exist, the gaming industry as a whole would be much smaller.

Beyond that, used games and renting only really pose a problem to those developers who can't make games that people want to keep (either for collector's sake or to play them again). So why should anyone feel bad about those developers not getting as much money as the more talented ones?

Well, I was only talking about this:

Remember, this is "Buying used/Renting games = Piracy" in the sense that the Developer and Publisher won't get money in any of those situations.

I never said anything about what people should feel like by Buying used/Renting games/Pirating :P and I never said people should feel good or bad about that. That depends on the culture and each person's opinions.

Here in my country, if you buy new/used/rent games you're treated as STUPID... and the "intelligent people" download their games from the internet for free (pirate their games).

Exactly. When you talk about used and rented games, develeopers get money from them in some way. Hell, rented and used games can even push DLC, and so developers can make even more, not just get the premium they get payed for a rental games. eeven the value of the used game gets back in circulation.

Piracy is different. Most of the time they dont even buy the game they rip, its usually leaked from somebody from the inside

So the difference is actually huge when you think about it

The timeless "Buying Used is a form of Piracy" bandwagon rolls back into town.

I buy used if I can wait a few months before playing the game.

Stuff that really grabs me I buy new.

Result : I support the developers that make games I really like !

The developers I'm not bothered about get supported by their fanbase.

Anyone who makes games few people like, twist in the wind and eventually die.

So you buy new copies of the games you "really like"... that's good but why do you buy (used) games you don't really like? :P

I wouldn't even want a game I don't like as a present... let alone buy it xD

Well, I don't care... I wouldn't be buying games if I did care :P It's funny how people say stuff like "oh, you're so stupid, I got the VERY SAME GAME you just bought for 75 dollars, for FREE". It's as if they were saying "oh, I just robbed someone in less than 15 minutes and I got more money than you did by working a whole month", lol :P

@bolded

I have no idea what you're talking about xD but it sounds like you're calling them poor xD I wouldn't do that because they'd say something like "oh, I'm sorry your highness... why don't you get your money and stick it in your a** you stupid son of a b****"... or worse... I could get a nice punch in the face xD. I just either ignore them or tell them that I like getting legitimate copies of my games.
