Exactly. When you talk about used and rented games, develeopers get money from them in some way. Hell, rented and used games can even push DLC, and so developers can make even more, not just get the premium they get payed for a rental games. eeven the value of the used game gets back in circulation.

 

Piracy is different. Most of the time they dont even buy the game they rip, its usually leaked from somebody from the inside

 

So the difference is actually huge when you think about it
