With your opening post NOT mentioning Just Cause 2 and Red Faction Guerrilla and the whole thread omitting them as well, no wonder you think that they're boring!
Try these two, then get back to me. Demos are up on PSN!

They're fun! Lots of vehicles to fuck around with and with Red Faction, you can just blow up whole towns. I love massive carnage and being free in the way I do it...
man,
check S.T.A.L.K.E.R on PC
play it then come back ;)))

inFamous 2 seems to combine an open world with Uncharted style cinematic gameplay and set pieces. The graphics are amazing too. Maybe that game will change your mind.
it is for a wider audience who want something else to do besides the story... people who like exploration, breaks between events, and being random/whimsical. It is not for someone who prefers a pure story game. It is ideal for a role playing game that gives more control over the character than a role playing game that immerses you into the character.
What I want from a game.
Gameplay > Story > Content > Graphics
Visual Style > Graphics
Smooth Camera, Intuitive Controls
Friction! When everything feels right!

Yeah, Donkey Kong games are much better than both.
Above: still the best game of the year.
you like Burnout Paradise, that's wrong with you.

Well those are experiences tailored to give every gamer about the same experience and can be highly specified to suit what the developers want the gamer to feel. The beauty of open world games are that they let you build your own experience and build your character the way you want to. I personally think that's the ultimate connection to a protagonist. Some gamers love it and other gamers aren't too fond of it. It's part of the reason there's so much debate over the gameplay in Crysis. Those that just went from checkpoint to checkpoint shooting bad guys in the face said the gameplay was generic and boring. Those that took time to learn the tools and try different play styles (stealth, speed, brute) got to fully experience what the developers made the game for: experimentation. To each there own, eh? As long as we've all got some great games to enjoy! |
This just mean your character was too powerfull in Crysis ... the developpers made a mistake IMO
Same go for MGS4 (too much weapon, ammo)
Same go for AC2 (too easy to fight versus a bunch of gard, too much HP)
Same go for RDRedemption (slowmo is too strong, too much ammo)
