In my last line of work, we were kinda.....obligated to kill the bad guy.  If we were in danger or a third party was in jeopardy, we are supposed to use deadly force.  In fact, in my first day at the police academy, the instructor (who looked just like Stone Cold Steve Austin) asked "Who among you has a problem killing somebody?  If you do, get the hell out of my academy.  I donMt want you as my partner and I don't want you putting anybody else's life in danger."

So, yeah.  I'd kill the Joker and then have breakfast.

Nah.  But I've been in situations where I had to draw my gun and if I had to, I don't think I would have hesitated.  I don't look for situations but I don't want to die or be responsible for innocent people dying, either.  I mean, cops/soldiers carry guns for a reason.  Sometimes deadly force is needed.

There's a grey area that depends upon circumstance; this isn't really a cut and dry question.

A deliberate, premeditated attempt to kill Joker, or any homicidal murderer, super criminal or otherwise, would move Batman from vigilante, to murderer. It would be pretty hard for the justice system to overlook this even if he was essentially doing a great public service.

Plus, if the Joker is legally insane, which is another grey area considering he frequently displays intent, premeditation as well as an acute awareness of the criminal acts he commits, then can't be held entirely liable for his actions by law, which IMO is a bit ridiculous. 

I'll just say that if in the attempt to apprehend the Joker that he sustained life threatening injuries, or was in a life threatening situation, I personally wouldn't make more than a token effort to save his life. 

Batman, on the other hand, would most likely risk his own life to do just that. But that's what makes him a hero and not a murderer or even a regular person who wouldn't place themselves in danger to save a known and convicted serial murderer.

To be fair... I think New York (or whatever state gotham is in) doesn't give a fuck about Gotham.

I maen keep in mind, the US government actually said "Fuck you Gotham" once and just bombed out all the bridges and unanexed Gotham City making it a no man's land.

Which... I always thought was dumb and highlights to me one of the problems of superhero comics.  

The single city focuses.  DC it's less a problem then Marvel since a lot of superheros get their own cities, while in marvel every supervillian and hero operates out of NY, but crime and supercrime should be something that happenes fairly all over.

I mean, as a kid I always wodnered "Why didn't Batman's villians leave gotham more often? "

Also Mark Hamil refuses to do the Joker anymore I guess.  I think that might be why the guy who used to Play batman doesn't do it either... which is sad.

Kevin Conroy plays Batman whenever they offer it to him.  And I don't think Hamil can do Joker anymore, literally, I think it kills his throat.  I mean, when he did Arkham Asylum not once did he do Joker's wail.

Yeah, Kevin Conroy is batman as far as I'm concerned. He was batman to me when I was growing up, and nobody sounds more like batman to me than he does. It's a shame Mark Hamil won't be doing Joker anymore (I thought I heard he was doing Arkham Asylum 2, and that was going to be his last gig), because he too just is the voice of Joker as far as I'm concerned. John Dimaggio sounded like he was just trying to do Hamil's joker with a little bit deeper of a voice, that's just what joker sounds like.

When I was a kid, I thought similar things kaz. I used to think "What would happen if there was a super villian in my town? He could do anything he wanted, nobody here could stop him....why don't super villians ever go to smaller towns then?" Of course this was followed by me deciding that I would have to man up and be the towns super hero. After all, if RPGs had taught me anything it's that any kid can pick up a sword and after grinding levels be even more proficient at combat that well trained adults.
