Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft: VGChartz uses "polling based methods" to track sales

As seen in the VGC methodology page, their is some simple polling of end users, but there is also tracking through retailers and other stuff; and track record has shown that VGC is roughly right most of the time

The future paid version on VGChartz shall put that kind of people to silence.

It`s hard to know how VGC is wrong when numbers haven`t gone public. It didn`t take too long for Activision to show COD: Black Ops numbers... why the hold up?

So we are to NOT believe VGChartz's numbers, but we are to believe that is costs less than $60 to make one Kinect unit?

Nope.  The cost of the Kinect parts was said to be <$60, but that doesn't mean the cost of one Kinect unit <$60.

Correct sir! Marketing, Labor, Overhead, Depreciation...

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

/Thread.  haha I lol'd, good job.

Could it be that Microsoft is feeling butthurt due to VGChartz recent PS3 adjustments? So this would be the backlash. And it would be immesely childish.

"We have the numbers but we won't show them to you even though it would be the best way to discredit those primitive apes at VGChartz. Please wait for NPD to see the truth."

That's my interpretation, and it makes no sense.

"lots and lots and more than that"

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Er... considering that NPD and their internal trackers are also just polling retailers... I fail to see the difference.

Outside of sample size anyway.

NPD also includes consumer side tracking (ie: polling) in their methodology.  In fact, that's specifically how they cover Wal-mart and Sam's Club.

Hell, NPD had a registered polling base of 1.8m.  They tout it on their site even.
