You're entitled to your opinion, of course.

But 0/10? Really?

All of the battles? The clone army advancing to fight the droids? Yoda fighting Dooku? Obi-Wan fighting Jango Fett? Mace Windu?

Surely, even if this doesn't redeem the movie, it does keep it from being a total catastrophe in the eyes of even the harshest critic, surely?

Same message to Twesterm, except that he didn't pretend to justify it.

You start talking about battles and we're going to start talking about Hoth or the Death Star Trench.

Nobody wants that.

Obviously, nothing on Hoth or the Death Star Trench, but they're from the original trilogy, all of which are brilliant movies with fantastic writing, engaging plots, brilliant acting, and epic battles (despite being designed with 1970s technology).

I'm not saying Geonosis is anywhere near the AT-ATs on Hoth, or Luke destroying the Death Star, or even the final battle on Endor, but it was a good fight scene, and I would put Yoda vs. Dooku as the second best lightsaber battle in the prequels (After, of course, Anakin vs. Obi-Wan).

That fight was really pointess. The point of that figth was that obiwan crippes anakin. It did not have to be that long of a fight and been in those conditions. It could have last 35 seconds and accoplished more than the orignal fight did.

The prequels stand up almost entirely on well-designed fight scenes with good cinematography. Yes, the fight scene could have been 35 seconds. It would also have sucked and not have been the best part of Episode 3.

But that's a discussion for the next thread.

But it was just there to show off what lucas can do with special efects. And when star wars all about fights? What happened to good dialouge, great storytelling, and good charcter devolpment. All the prequel have are pointess fights with big special effects with charcter's we don't care about.

Eh, I disagree on both those points, but that's for another discussion.

No better place to discuss it than here.

Which would you say are the best prequel lightsaber battles, then?

None of them are particularly gripping, but Yoda vs. Palpatine and the duel in The Phantom Menace would be the two best.

7/10 , but this is coming from someone that thinks that Star Wars is the best thing ever next to James Bond.

I constantly hear about how The Phantom Menace was the worst Star Wars movie, but it is actually better than Attack of the Clones.  Episode 2 seemed to be a movie that was written to connect 1 and 3.  Much of it seemed forced and the "romantic" scenes were pretty awful.

There were some great action scenes though, and Christopher Lee was perfect as Dooku.

Pro's -

Yoda.
Christopher Lee.
Yoda fighting Christopher Lee.
Ewan McGreggor as Obi Wan.
Samuel L Jackson kicking arse.
Story elements that are non-Anakin/Padme love thing.
Music.

Con's -

Anakin/Padme love thing. Enough to make me hate the film by 3 points.

e, it does keep it from being a total catastrophe in the eyes of even the harshest critic, surely?

Fine.

  • George Lucas can't write about love to save his life which is horrible since this movie is about Anakin and Padme's love
  • George Lucas can't write to save his life in general
  • The movie is just filled with stupid moments that just dont' make sense and too many to list.  Like why did an assassin hire an assassin to kill someone in a horribly complicated way?
  • The big fight at the end was boring and felt pointless.  The B1's are laughably worthless and nobody cares if a clone dies.
  • The action is overly choreographed and just feels fake.  They're neat sequences, but lack everything else.
  • Everything is done on a green screen talking to green screen characters so nothing in the entire movie feels real.  Everything feels manufactured.
  • Good actors doing a bad job with a bad script and awful actors doing an even worse job with a bad script.
  • The music was a letdown
  • Samuel L Jackson did an awful job as Mace Windu because Lucas could not have done a worse job casting him.
  • The plot is nonsensical
  • Waaaaaaaaaay too much fan service
  • C3PO

Do I need to go on?  The Phantom Menace was a giant slap in the face because it took a highly revered series and shit all over it and that's why I probably have that knee jerk OMG IT'S AWFUL!! reaction and I probably forget about this one because Phantom Menace made me almost not care about the prequels and forget how bad Attack of the Clones actually is.

So again: 0/10

What Happened to episode IV? did I miss it, I loved that one (1 of the 3 star wars I love)?

Worst Prequel and Worst Star Wars Movie By a Significant margin imo.

For one thing... theres some deleted scenes on Naboo, and while their not exactly fantastic cinema, I found them them much more enjoyable, than what was in the movie... (I forgot exactly what it was as I said it wasn't that good but was better than those love scenes... (And yes I do love cheesy love scenes at points but this was just bad (though nhot as bad as the love scenes in the next one imo)

Theres this scene Natalie Portman is lieing in the ground after she falls off the transport going "Owowowowow" and then this officer comes and is like "are you alright"

Also I didn't like the yoda battle... I thought it was stupid... I thought Sam Jackson's Purple saber was cool but Lucas never used him enough

The big thing I think I noticed (though could be wrong) Is I like set pieces and not Blue Screens most of the time etc I prefer Crouching Tiger, Original Star Wars and Blade Runner,From a visual standpoint over CG. Imo if you're going to include an abundance of CG make a CG movie... as it feels more seamless

Pros Some pretty special effects.
Natalie Portman is Hot
Some Cool atmosphere... (i love the atmosphere in the prequels even if at times nothing is logical)
Sam Jackson

Cons..
A lot.. the only star was I find boring... Like I find other ones cheesy and entertaining, but this one is just boring and I never want to watch it again.
Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman... hell I felt the Acting of Ewan Mcgregor was much mor stiff than In Episode I as well.
Bad Acting
Anything involving Anakin basically... (And I loved Anakin in Episode I no matter how silly it was)

4/10

2.5

Pros-

Natalie Portman getting her top ripped.

Sand People

Everything else.

Yoda vs Palpatine is the best lightsaber fight in the series behind the final battle in Episode 6.

Both fights have subtle things that if interpreted are awesome.
