It's pretty cool being here since 2007 when the site looked like a 12 year old's MySpace page and seeing it evolve over the years into what it is today. VGChartz will always hold a special place in my heart :'(

Haha yea same here!

This is all great news for the site, I'm really happy for you ioi.
Just one minor question, but that's more of a thing that's going on for the past years =P, is the site speed ever going to increase (significantly)? I fear major businesses and the likes want high speed sites with easy access. Is there a plan to improve this?

Well this is a tough one. To be honest, I've yet to really figure out what causes the site to be "slow". The speed definitely improved with this latest version (as we moved away from heavy use of flash) and CPU useage (for the user) is down to more normal levels now - i.e the site isn't that heavy now. In terms of server CPU and bandwidth I'm not sure there is much more we can do - I know we have a few queries that aren't really optimised and these can really slow the site at times (especially when uploading new data or adding up totals etc). The main issue though is probably with ads and unfortunately all I can do there is keep getting on to our ad providers and get them to upgrade their servers.

So it is a complex issue really but something that I definitely want to improve. Do you feel the site is significantly slower than other similar sites then?

Well there aren't many comparable sites, but if we just take GamrReview, it runs much much slower than somewhere like Eurogamer, which is basically why I go to Eurogamer not GamrReview.

All these updates sound excellent, and I look forward to seeing them soon

Looks to be a great update, I'm looking forward to seeing all the improvements to the site.

Good job ioi. First I must say how impressed I am y the sales tracking in the last 1-1.5 years. The sales numbers are so solid it's crazy (apart from a few obscure exceptions like Demon's Souls and Valkyrie Cronicles, no biggie).

I love the idea of a member prediction thing for 1st week, 1st month, 1st year sales of new games (I think it was supposed to be implemented some time ago but it kinda disappeared with 3.0). Please implement that! I'm a strong predictor and I wanna prove my skills.

Montana has a great point when he says you should concentrate on what makes VGC unique - the sales numbers. But I believe ioi when he says he's seen the upper growth limit of that, so by broadening the site into several semi-independent sites there's potential for growth. Just make sure you keep your focus on the sales data. It is the incredible sales data that makes VGC stand out from the rest.

A short comment about the VGC TV. If it even was just a couple or three video interviews/reviews posted in a long time it would still mean a lot. A strong signal that this site is to be reckoned with, that it's "pro".

Oh and getting Pachter to do a column, interview or whatever for VGC would be fantastic!! I love Pachter and I would love to be able to interact with him even if it was just through him reading my comment on one of his articles lol.

ioi, so with all this growth in the past 3 years you mentioned, are you a millionaire now?

Wow a lot of awesome upgrades are on their way.  I just have a few questions.

Will the Vgchartz pro be a monthly or yearly type fee?

Have you decided on a price for Vgchartz pro yet?

And what is GamrTV like?

For Pro we are going to offer monthly and yearly options. The price is going to be fairly high, I'm not going to lie about that - it is really aimed at businesses who need full data access and I can't see many casual users forking out for it. We will still release various amounts of info, in sales articles and of course the running totals will be public for everyone to see. It is more about making it easier to compare and add up various types of data. For example, if I wanted to track Ubisoft $$ sales in the Americas from 2007 - 2010 on PS3 it would be pretty much impossible with what you have now and a standard account but for a Pro member there will be an easy tool to extract this kind of info. So we're not selling data, we are selling easier access and tools - tailored for industry needs. An investor doesn't care how one game compares to another or particularly about unit sales, he is more interested in $$ sales and at a company level, so Pro will have a different focus.

GamrTV is a video site - we want 3 sections: Originals (show coverage, reviews, previews, interviews), Trailers and User-submitted. We are currently working on some video hosting tech and trying to find the best option for us (hosting videos is a very costly area).

As for others asking about customisable homepages and bringing certain features back - yes, this is all going to be happening (but will take time and be bit by bit).

Video reviews would be so awesome!

And you should implement an option for regular users to donate cause I wouldn't mind donating a bit of money via paypal for all the great work you guys do and I'm sure I'm not alone either.

No. That requires either a green or, preferably, red box for your name. And it will be subject to other issues...

Sounds like awesome times for VGChartz

If you don't mind some advice;

If the gamerconnect upgrades cant be done in November, then maybe do them in January. Presumably December is a busy period for VGChartz, both in terms of traffic and in terms of what you have to do. It seems like bringing in new features should be put on hold for the month.

Don't try to become too much like IGN/Gamespot/whatever else. Each of us has a reason why we are here instead of at IGN etc. For example, I love that this site is fairly strict in its moderation compared to many other gaming sites. If the moderation becomes more lax, either due to a decrease in mods:posters ratio or due to relaxing of the forum rules I suspect I would not be enjoying the site so much.
