Well , I don't think that it's only a problem of Wii demographic.
Every Suda 51 games was a commercial failure in Japan.
Look Famitsu numbers :

Flower, Sun, and Rain PS2: 5.9K first week and disappeared.
Michigan PS2: 15.2K first week and disappeared.
Killer 7 GCN: 4.5K first week and disappeared; didn't reach the 15.2K necessary to make the yearly Top 500.
Killer 7 PS2: 13.7 first week, 28.6K last we saw it in the 2005 yearly Top 500.
Contact DS: 6.1K first week and disappeared; didn't reach the 17.2K necessary to make the yearly Top 500. ( 25,4 K LTD for Media Create )

No More Heroes FIRST DAY sales are about 10k so you can compare it to previous Suda51 games.

I mean PS2 and DS have an huge variety in their demographic and RE4 Wii and Re UC have both good sale of over 100k units.
Every Suda 51 games were niche games. NMH seems to be more "mainstream" so I hope that it will sell good in Europe and North America.

No More Heroes toilet paper was a stupid idea anyway.

Don’t forget to sign this petition for the PAL version of NMH : http://www.petitiononline.com/nmh3r03s/petition.html

Thanks.

Contact was a Suda game?

Huh. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it wasn't what I thought it would be.

Also, may be par for the course for his games, but that doesn't mean it's good, what gamers should want, or anything like that.

Srry, but i had to get that of my mind. Let me explain:

No more heroes (or every game from Suda51 for that matter) is a developer of niche games. As such he makes games that most people dislike or find to 'different' to purchase.

Lets have a look at how the last title made by Suda for a homeconsole sold:

PS2: About 3k at launchweek.

In comparison: No more heroes on Wii did around 10k first DAY... Thats more than 300% increase on a first DAY compared to a first full week on the PS2.

Ofcourse the Gamecube version of Killer 7 did even worse than those 3k on the PS2.

But this shows there's a much wider niche-title appeal on the Wii. This game was never destined to have huge, heck even great sales.

I do find it amusing that No More Heroes manages to outsell most Suda games in its first day but you still have people crying "Wii doom!" and making up bullshit about "the console is almost dead," yet infinitely more expensive PS3 games bomb in Japan on a consistent basis and no one really bats an eyelash.

if that's true, then why did he show up at launch wanting to greet buyers and sign the game. What was he expecting?

No it doesnt make it good,

but it makes it silly to try and indicate that this is some kind of "Wii owners buying habits" problem when its performing better than any of the other games he has released so far. Thats just ridiculous. So his games started slower on the 18m userbase on the PS2 than it did on the Wii, and thats reason to call into question the buying habits of the Wii audience? Anyone want to explain that to me?

Seriously, look at the list of his games again. Bomb after bomb after bomb. 15k for opening weeks on MUCH more popular consoles, he does 10k first day here, its an improvement, but it wont help the fact that his games are niche and are ultra violent and released in Japan where they dont buy that stuff.

This line: "No More Heroes isn't your typical Wii game, and it seems to be getting punished for that." Is just bullcrap. If anything it was rewarded by starting better than ANY of his other games, period. How you can manage to spin that into negative is beyond me.

GTA sold nothing in Japan compared to the rest of the World, if NMH sells 300000 to 500000 WW it will a good enough success to not be detractive, also it is a New IP, and it will take time for word of mouth to spread

Hardcore fanbase (really small group of Japanese) really adore what Suda51 is doing... So he's a legend for some... That's the kind of group he's targeting when he's going to sign the game.
