No it doesnt make it good,

but it makes it silly to try and indicate that this is some kind of "Wii owners buying habits" problem when its performing better than any of the other games he has released so far. Thats just ridiculous. So his games started slower on the 18m userbase on the PS2 than it did on the Wii, and thats reason to call into question the buying habits of the Wii audience? Anyone want to explain that to me?

Seriously, look at the list of his games again. Bomb after bomb after bomb. 15k for opening weeks on MUCH more popular consoles, he does 10k first day here, its an improvement, but it wont help the fact that his games are niche and are ultra violent and released in Japan where they dont buy that stuff.

This line: "No More Heroes isn't your typical Wii game, and it seems to be getting punished for that." Is just bullcrap. If anything it was rewarded by starting better than ANY of his other games, period. How you can manage to spin that into negative is beyond me

 Exactly.

GTA sold nothing in Japan compared to the rest of the World, if NMH sells 300000 to 500000 WW it will a good enough success to not be detractive, also it is a New IP, and it will take time for word of mouth to spread

If this games sells 100k it is a success, it is niche and rated M.  It is probably also made with a significantly lower budget than most of the heavily advertised games.

On a side note, the reason why these ultra-hardcore niche games are made and risk of a loss is acceptable is that there are some executive at the big publishers who believe that gaming is an art (or fanservice).  Plus these games usually pick up a following that buys the $50 bust, $30 action figures, and $20 graphic novels.  Nevermind all the money they are going to make selling collectible beam katanas.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

THIS THREAD IS PLAIN BULLSHIT!

Srry, but i had to get that of my mind. Let me explain:

No more heroes (or every game from Suda51 for that matter) is a developer of niche games. As such he makes games that most people dislike or find to 'different' to purchase.

Lets have a look at how the last title made by Suda for a homeconsole sold:

PS2: About 3k at launchweek.

In comparison: No more heroes on Wii did around 10k first DAY... Thats more than 300% increase on a first DAY compared to a first full week on the PS2.

Ofcourse the Gamecube version of Killer 7 did even worse than those 3k on the PS2.

But this shows there's a much wider niche-title appeal on the Wii. This game was never destined to have huge, heck even great sales.

if that's true, then why did he show up at launch wanting to greet buyers and sign the game. What was he expecting?

Well 10k people bought the game. Maybe he was in the wrong store?

He is out signing the game for the same reaon a lot of small time people do that yes I said it.

I worked in a bookstore getting authors in. Sometimes we got a ton of people sometimes not. Sometimes authors were so small time they would just come in our store and pick up the 2 copies of their book and sign them.

They are doing the same thing as small bands selling tapes out of the back of their station wagon.

Many Wii fans have been pushing this as a major 3rd party title. It just isn't.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

See, this is what I don't get. If his games generally bombed, how is still finding the funds to develop more games. He must have done something right at some point.

It's quite simple. Grasshopper games are always low budget games and they develop some parte of other company games to obtain cash to develop their games. Grasshopper are an indie development team, its uniqueness and strange/innovative game approach made them famous to  international  specialistic outlet  after Killer7 was released outside Japan.

Grasshopper is a Punk-developer

Comment from Kotaku board:
"which entirely new franchises sold well in japan this year other than the so called "casual games"?"
on any console. This is not a Wii problem, it is a Japan problem.

Bombed is relative ...

Sell 500,000 copies of a game like Killer 7 which cost $5 Million to develop (to pick a number) and the publisher makes $10 Million in revenue and $5 Million in profit. Sell 1 Million copies of a game like Metal Gear Solid 4 which cost $40 Million to develop (to pick a number) and the publisher makes $20 Million in revenue and has $20 Million in losses.

In general, I would say that certain publishers are probably anticipating that the unique style of Grasshopper and its ultra-violent themes will eventually have break-out success in North America and Europe and they might become as well known as Rockstar. This makes up for lower profits in the short run ...
