If there was such a thing as word of mouth it would already have happened. There was a demo weeks ago and lots of pre-release footage.
Can you grasp how bad a 150k opening week is? It means 1 million lifetime is out of reach. And it means just like it did for Mirrors Edge that half of its sales will be from the bargain bin at $25 per copy sold.
Castlevania bombed incredibly hard and will lose many millions of Dollars.
With Patrik Stewart doing voice and all the games' other production values, game length, big marketing Castlevania would have needed at least 1.5 million to break even, probably 2 million. This is a $30 million budget game plus another $10 million for marketing.

Quote for truth. You defo seem to know what you're talking about. The break even points for games like this are really high. I remember when Spore came out on the PC, they said even with a million in sales it would still need to do more in terms of DLC and expansion sales to make it truly profitable. Big names like Patrick Stewart = big money.
I am now on chapter 12 and I still think this is an amazing game. Even more so than in the beginning. But, I must face reality. Word to mouth alone will not save this gem of a game from dissapointing sales. Here is hoping the holiday season will help it a little.
In all honesty, I can understand the lack of appeal. I have been on forums for the last hour concerning Fallout New Vegas. This game will be HUGE! I know it is an established license, but the buzz surrounding the release is big.
Enslaved, as a new license, never really stood a chance. I am even prouder I bought it.

I don't buy this. I'd bet $20 and my mother that wallets are feeling the hurt right now from these sales.
Considering these two games had A. good marketing and B. good critical reception, yet still somehow managed to bomb... I am C. scared shitless for Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom and D. already preparing for mass murder for when I find out patapon 3 only sold 20 copies... all of which are mine.
I'm scared shitless, too. My favorite genre is pretty much single player action adventures with high production values. Are they dying now? Both of these games are my cup of tea. They did everything right, didn't they? And yet nobody is buying them. Are we doomed to a future of rehashes and FPS's? Alan Wake suffered like this too and I love that game. Sucks that I'm in the minority.

Castlevania doesn't launch in Japan on the 360/PS3 until December. So the "opening week" total numbers should be a bit higher.

Yes, it should push 100k on the PS3, wouldn't do much for the 360 release however!
