Wii of course.

I hate to quote you again, because I don't want this to come across as me arguing with you directly -- I understand your points. That said, Sony expected to take a loss on the hardware, and I think Sony anticipates losing money on the hardware for a number of years to come. They established this precedent from the launch of the original PlayStation. They are going to cut prices naturally as a matter of course everytime sales stall, or to match MS cutting the 360. Where the PS3 breaks trend, however, is that I don't think they're recouping their losses on the software as readily as they did in the prior generations, which was the business model Sony had always banked on.
They're investing tens of millions of dollars in each title, and devs from other companies have publicly lamented that they think they'd have to shift 600,000 units to break even. According to VGChartz own data, Sony has published or invested in maybe 16 or 17 titles that have dropped in all major territories, and thus far only two have broke not only 1M, but even that 600k mark (Resistance and Motorstorm). Heavenly Sword will hit 600k by year end, and Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted should reach that number early next year. Hot Shots Golf should do well when it comes to the States, but I think the software rate has to be considered somewhat disappointing overall, with maybe a 25 - 30% "success" rate. Warhawk, Folklore, and Eye of Judgement have to be the most disappointing, right now, in reference to their quality/value vs number of units sold, not counting the disaster with what happened to Lair.
I don't think losing money on software too was in Sony's original plan, and the only way that can be rectified is to move more hardware. It's not all gloom and doom -- the PS3 will wind up just peachy long term -- but losing money from two divisions can't be tolerable for another year.

That's a theory that someone mentioned before but I don't think it's true. It's overly simple. I think it's a case of demographic/interest. If the PS3 currently had double the Wii sales I don't think the crowd on this site would be hugely different. It's more to do with the demographic of Nintendo fans versus PS fans.
Nintendo fans on this site are generally older. This is because the nes and snes were around earlier then the PS1. So it's stands to reason that in general Nintendo has an older fanbase. There are of course exceptions, new fans (Soriku etc.).
What has age got to do with it? Well, I believe that the general demographic interested in games sales data is primarily men, who have been gamers for a long period of time. Nintendo has more fans than either the PS or 360 that fit that catagory best.
If what your saying was true then there should be almost an equal split of 360/Wii fans on this site with a much lower amount of PS fans. (360 has double PS3 sales) Yet that's not the case.
However if you follow my theory, (PS1 was released years before the xbox) then it makes sense why there are very few 360 fans on this site, and explains why PS fans outnumber them.

Get a Wii now, get the great games Zelda TP, Mario Galaxy, RE4, Metroid 3, Zack & wiki, Fire Emblem (will cost you about the same amount as 80GB PS3 +1 game) and wait until the big PS3 hits FF, GT5, MGS4 are out. I don't see a huge pricecut happening next year because the shareholders are already complaining about the performance of the game division.
I'd have thought a lot of sony fans would be pretty keen to avoid a sales tracking site at the moment, so that could account for any extra bias.
I own a 360 - for 2 years - and a Wii. I don't play the Wii as much as my wife does and she loves it.
The PS3 is a huge investment - especially if you are using your hard-earned cash for it that may or may not pay off. The Wii is wildly popular and if you don't like it, just resell it for a profit.
I bought a Wii to flip it but ended up enjoying it. The controls are *interesting* but innovative. The Wii has built-in wireless, can play GC games and has the ability to play old-skool Nintendo, Turbo-Grafx 16 and other games via Virtual Console. You can also access the Web and other *channels.*
With the PS3, you get cutting-edge technology, a BR player and some games, but BR movies are between $25 and $40 a pop (unless you get them used), has HDMI but it's pointless if you don't have an HDTV and promising games (Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank) but is still lagging in exclusives that made the PS1 and PS2 tha obvious choices.
It really depends on your cash. Folks can toss $250 around and not think about it much. However, if you spend $400 to $600 on a system, that's a big investment.
I will say - I do think Wii/PS3 owners are much more satisfied than 360 owners. I rarely hear PS3 owners complain about their purchase.

Buy a new DS, it's the best system out there hands down. Forget about the Wii and PS3 for now... both are too expensive for what you get. The best gaming dollar for dollar is on the DS.
Then make the decision after more games come out.
Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Then maybe the PS3 is more up your alley, the Wii and DS are very similar and if you don't like the DS chances are you won't care about the Wii.
