But on the other hand, a tank with a sign that says "I don't agree with a cinematic character-centric direction for Metroid!" doesn't have that same sound bite punchiness.

Is it the cinematic character-centered part that you object to, or the execution of that design and the new direction he took Samus that is objectionable?

Both, really. Understand that when we heard they would be exploring "themes of maternity" I thought it would be somehting like "Samus lets a baby Metroid live and defends it against threats after it imprints on her" - and that this would happen without any talking to explain it. The baby Metroid isn't even hurt, it just follows you around while you kill shit. I don't know. Something like that - something that could be carried on in silence, where the meaning is yours to interpret. Maybe in the end, Samus would have had to kill the hatchling. Maybe she would have turned it over to science again, to set up Metroid Fusion. I don't know. SOmething. Anything. I didn't expect what we got.

I guess I could have two signs

"I don't agree with a cinematic character-centric direction for Metroid!" and also

"SAKAMOTO'S WRITING SUCKS"

I'd like Zelda to be similar to my fav zelda game thanks very much.

It might be less successful, but not by that much.

Sure, of course, but it wouldn't be good advice.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I am in no position to give Nintendo advice, I'm busy with SONY right now.

I'm not talking about Aonuma, but the sentiment that Zelda needs to follow one of the less successful games.

you are on a sales website, a quick check shows that Wind Waker sells about 1/3 less than OoT or Twilight Princess style zelda.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Give Kevin a punch in the arm for me. Talk bad about dogs will he... *grumble grumble*

Anywho, Other M... Other M...

It's a good game with solid gameplay mechanics... but it gets bogged down by a story that gets in the way and a few mechanics that add nothing to the game.

Music is nothing special and Sense Move, while making the action fast and frantic, makes battles simpler then they should be. Still, the game does look good, so that counts for something.

Buuuut my biggest complaint is *spoilers* that Ridley is a little fuzz ball. Totally lame.

If Sakamoto ever does go for character-building again, I hope it's something that can be communicated with no more cutscene than was found in Prime or Super. The idea of being followed around by a baby Metroid the whole game - one that enemies can't normally interact with, but might occassionaly latch onto a boss or something - is pretty interesting, and it would allow us to build up a really serious attachment to it over the course of several hours.

I'll blame the Gamecube's poor sales in comparison to Wii and even N64 for that.

One remark:

Adding the nunchuck is  difficult to do. You would have to design two game versions: one really fast, because of the lock-on, and one slow because of the manual aiming.

That's the reason they didn't add that option for Other M. It was impractical in development.

That is completely false.

Sakamoto himself explains that they didn't use the Nunchuck because he wanted it to control like an NES game.

There was only ever going to be one control scheme for it, but it came down to nunchuck vs. no nunchuck, not both vs. no nunchuck.
