So I just finished watching the full video and I must say that I am extremely excited for Black Ops! I will probably be buying the PS3 version but I'm also excited for those who are going to buy the Wii version since they are going to have the option to chat during the game now. Go Treyarch! It seems as if they are really trying to make the best possible game on all three platforms.
Honestly, if the HD versions had barely any, if at all, split screen, I wouldn't mind so much. NOT because of "if the Wii can't have it, they shouldn't". That would be stupid. I mean it like "Oh, if none are getting it, then the Wii version really is going to be just like the other versions".

LOTN, same screen multiplayer is the big multiplayer draw on Wii. Splitscreen is much less so. Look at the big local multiplayer games on Wii. A huge majority of them have all characters on screen at once and are not reduced to split screen (Mario Kart Wii being the only big one).
But when you consider certain game genres, even that changes further still. FPS's specifically have a higher demand for online multiplayer than they do for local splitscren. While I cannot provide you with any reputable sources to back up my claims, I present it solely as my own understanding as gathered by my expereince in the media, my social observations and from being community manager to my own 33,000 member forum.
Let's look at the issue from the other angle. How good would CoD sales be on Wii if they had local splitscreen multiplayer but no online multiplayer? Would they equal or exceed the sales of the titles relased as we know them now (no local splitscreen but with online multiplayer)? I'm quite confident that you will agree that sales would be far less. Thus we can conclude the larger sales draw to be online multiplayer over local splitscreen.
I will grant that including local splitscreen would likely increase sales to some degree. But none of us can saw with any certainty that the efforts involved to do so would be worth the yeild results gained. It could be assumed that given the massive effort by Treyarch that they have likely already considered this themselves and have either deemed the effort (money, time, resources) not worth it, the engine not well suited for it or time simply dosn't permit them to make that inclusion. Keep in mind that the X360 is the lead development console and everything else is handed down after the fact and the release schedule (regardless of the development schdule of the Wii iteration) is locked. They will not delay the game just to give the Wii iteration more time. And delaying the Wii iteration alone would be detrimental to overall sales despite being a more complete game because it would miss the important shopping season.

Well drop that confidence, because I don't agree. And just because it's same screen doesn't change the fact that it's local. Actually, local is what I meant, but the nature of FPS means that same screen would be rail shooters for the other three, which is why I meant that split screen is the key.

LOTN, you believe the CoD titles on Wii would have sold better if they had local multiplayer but no online multiplayer?

Come on, Jimmy. Just ignore him. It's obvious Call of Duty 4 was the first Call of Duty he has ever played.
Currently enjoying: Monster Hunter Tri.

I played Modern Warfare 2 on the 360 first. It was playing that which convinced me to get Reflex, since I could get that game combined with the control of the Conduit (which I found not bad, but not great).
But why are you all assuming that online is a better selling point for a Wii game than local multiplayer* ? If you are going by just the local multiplayer FPS that didn't sell so well, then you are ignoring that those games were also criticized for being mediocre all around.
Plus even not just taking the Wii into account, this online push for gaming in general seems to assume gamers like to play alone, and that the playing with friends audience is not that big. That is something I do not like on principle.
Yet just going by arguing won't matter as much as hard proof. If Goldeneye outsells this game, will that convince you that split screen would be a good idea for the next CoD Wii game?
* Which I only call split screen in this case, since it's just a rail shooter for the other three if the same screen.

Time Splitters 2 on the GAMECUBE had splitscreen with so many countless game types it still hasn't gotten boring. It also had one of the most kickass stories ever, which was incredibly fun to play through with a friend on splitscreen.
Even today, I love playing TS2 with my friends and we do so all the time. Weird how Wii apparently can't handle fun games like that. **** graphics.
