Forums - Microsoft Discussion - 18 Month Wait for 'Hardcore' Kinect Games -say's Microsoft EMEA vice prez.

So 1.5 years until the interesting games out that actually appeal to the core userbase and it costs $150 if you already have an Xbox. That's in 2012.

What.

The.

Hell.

Kinect is shooting itself in the foot now.

Apart from the fact M$ was never targeting core gamers for release in the first place.

Around the Network

Nintendo(misquoted): ''hardcore games in two years''

The internet: explode

Microsoft: halfcore games in 18 months

The internet: huh... it's ok ...hardcore games are overrated anyway

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

So, what incentive is there again for 3rd parties to hop on board and create core gaming experiences for the Kinect?

People aren't going to want to buy Kinect in Nov. of 2010 and have it sit there until late 2011/ early 2012 for a game to play. Microsoft really seem to putting all their eggs in the casual basket and I seriously wonder what will happen if Kinect doesn't get a big start out of the  gate this holiday season. They won't have the hardcore crowd to fall back on if that happens.

When I first saw this article the first thing I said to myself was "Microsoft seriously should have kept this to themselves", because it quite possibly just pushed early core gaming adopters away.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

This is exactly what I'm thinking. And the price is too high to lure in the casuals and the overall image of the 360 isn't very casual at all. Kinect is gonna have a hard time moving I think, as will Move.

Well the PSmove got my money.  Socom4, RE5, HR and KZ3 (early next year).  Those can tide me over.

But why not just save a $100 dollars and play those on a DS3, since that is what they are designed around?

If kinect culd do hardcore games, why they didnt implement it, some way in new HALO or GOW 3.

I think its casual only. its made for people who don't care about hardcore games.

Because those games had been in development for years and designed around a controller experience.  Why force something on them that doesn't fit?

Plus MS doesn't want games on it that work best with a controller, and those kinds of games take time to brainstorm, conceptualize and develop.

I think maybe he means up to 18 months wait...

So its a peripheral that costs too much for casuals and has no games for the hardcore? Again I ask myself; what possible reason is there for these HD console motion controls to succeed against the Wii?

because it's not just about the Wii and it's expanded market.

the Wii just like the xbox360 and the PS3 can all benefit from motion control's, unless you only think that Nintendo's the only one that get's any benefit's from motion control's attached to their system.

Looking at the Kinect and Move both have augmented reality wich is a great benefit to the player of some game's on the HD system's that currently the Wii does not offer with it's motion control's. Now that could change and I hope it does, the Wii could benefit by having Augment reality on the Wii for it's game's also.

I'm not saying that motion controls have no merit (despite the fact that I'm not a fan of them in any shape or form), I'm simply stating that Move and Kinect have zero selling points upon launch for either demographic (casual and hardcore). The Move lineup is decent but the controls themselves fail to set themselves apart and the price will be far too high considering you'll need multiple units in order to play with friends. Kinect is way too expensive and has no core offering at all in its infancy. Add to this the fact that the majority of 360 and PS3 owners are generally sceptical about motion controls in general and casuals seem to prefer the Wii at any rate since it was tailor made with motion controls in mind and also costs the least out of the three and you have yourself a recipe for two possible outcomes as I see it, either its going to crash and burn or its going to be mediocre in all ways. I don't see either Kinect nor Move succeeding hugely under any circumstance at this point.  Its kind of like releasing a console without any games; there's absolutely no reason to buy it at all.

Edit; underlined; this is my exact point right there, the Wii-mote is an integral part of the system from the very beginning with developer support and applicable use while the two other are 11th hour tack-on's with nothing but a whaft of desperation permiating the air about them.

Your really ready to say anything to back up your taste. Zero selling points upon release... casuals seem to prefer the wii! over unrelease products? Price far too high? Your opinion is very extremist.
