No. Because you have to multiply the PS2 with a factor of 2 since it is hardcore, as opposed to the DS which is softcore.

Ha Ha HA yea really aren't you clever. That is what the thread is about one dedicated gaming system selling more than another gaming system.  The pc is not generally a dedicated gaming machine

No need to deny the guys who want to compare pcs to handhelds and consoles.

Of course, pc is a generic term just like console is, so you can't just compare all pcs to individual consoles. No, try comparing a single model of computer if you want to be fair.

I don't know how many (say for example) Pavillion Dv6-2180us have ever been sold, but I think its pretty safe to say its doesn't hold a candle to any of the consoles mentioned in this thread.

Actually, the best selling computer of all time, the Commadore 64, sold 30 million; which isn't much compared to the PS2 or the DS.

Dont know if DS will outsell it, it depends how big the Drop off will be after 3DS launched PS2 is about 15 Million ahead. So it can be reached pretty quick. Thats illegal and there are rules what can be count and what not you can count a device which was replaced but only if the Customer paid for it atleast the production costs.

VGChartz numbers are correct. Those regions which aren't tracked are still estimated so that is nonsense

 

As for it being illegal - how could it possibly be illegal to say "We manufactureed x copies of this hardware"? Certainly, if they said "retailers have sold x many of this hardware to consumers" then it would be a crime (Only if it was done in an investor statement btw, you can say pretty much what you want in media brieifings)

 

As for actual evidence - That's like claiming that gravity acts up and demanding I go out of my way to prove you wrong. Do your own research. I would try looking at Sony financial statements before April 2007 :)

The PS2 sold 30 Million since the PS3 launched, the Gameboy Advance sold 25 Million after the Nintendo DS launched, the Nintendo DS will probably sell 10 Million units before the 3DS is launched, the Nintendo DS could sell more than 30 Million units after the 3DS launched, the PS2 probably only has a couple million units left to sell, and the gap between the PS2 and Nintendo DS is only about 6 Million.

Or to put it another way, the Nintendo DS may pass the PS2 before the 3DS launches and by the time the Nintendo DS stops selling it will seem silly that anyone asked this question.

VGC data isn't 100% accurate for anything. PS2, DS... Anything.

I personally think we should do the whole "best selling" thing on Shipments. It's gonna look a tad stupid if one week, the DS "outsells" the PS2, only to be adjusted down say... 200k, the week after.

Well shipping figures doesnt mean anything. A company could very well ships tons of consoles that won't find any buyers and stay on shelves for years. That's why sales are more relevent.
