Lol, It's so broken it's not even funny - so I'll take that lol back!
And it's easy to perceive you can break the game with junk-tioning!
To me it's the worst of them.

The battle system itself, as in the battles.....well you could draw magic which was weird and you could hit the R1 button when squall attacks for extra damage. The hitting R1 thing was cool actually, but still if it weren't for FF8's epic, fantastic plot (the last FF with such an awesome plot, after FF8 every FF's plot has lacked) it would be my least favourite FF game. My favourite battle system is easily FF13's & then FF10's a distant second.....they are both on opposite ends in many ways but both were the most fun & satisfying. Junction does not equal battle system. You can put that under growth mechanics or something, again FF7's materia system trumps FF8 there. Theres no point having variety for the sake of variety. |
junctin is part of battle sistem, it changes ur stats in battle, it affcts the outcome of battle if u use it properly, sum ppl ignored junctining & so dnt knw much about it.

That shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the battle system. Summons in VIII end up being FARRR less efficient and totally ineffective towards the last half of the game if you even attempt to delve into the weapon upgrading system. I've been saying for years, that VIII has one of the best, and most complex, AND most misunderstood battle systems in any game ever, and if you think Summoning is even an option, then you have misunderstood this battle system as well. |
Well it may not have been the best option, but it was easy and I beat the game spamming it lol
Final Fantasy 8 is the only FF game I have not completed (tho I am in the middle of trying it again). Have started the game 6 times and quit each time.
The Draw Magic System was god awful and I am very glad they have NEVER brought that mess back.
I haven't played ALL the Final Fantasy games but...
Yes, I think Final Fantasy VIII's battle system is one of the best ones =) (from the ones I've played that is :P)

I agree with most of this post, except...
I don't think that 8's plot was good, at all, why?
SPOILERS:
The Villians, I mean, seriousely, Seifer has no real reason for doing what he does, especially when he knows the consequences, Ultimicia has no reason for what she's doing, and what she tries to do is idiotic as hell as well (killing everyone, except her), the completley rushed plot with stupid twists (Orphanage twist, anyone?) Whatever Ellone is doing - sending everyone's minds into the past, despite the fact that she knows the past can't be changed.
These are all seriously big plotholes in the game, however, I think that the game was simply rushed, and that given time, the plot would've made much more sense (even the developers themselves said so!)
And anyway, I have some more-than-usual bias against 8, because this game is the reason for why disc 2 of Xenogears was what it was (8 didn't have enough budget, so they took it from Xenogears')
Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Note: I did beat Omega Weapon using that same method. Boring as hell. |
I found the actual build up and preperation for the battle vastly exciting, and again, as always, the minigames for the limit breaks excite and enthrall me. Taking this single fully optimized battle as "proof" for anything is insufficient. Omega is the final battle in the game, for people stat maxing. It's supposed to require ALL of your abilities to win, and indeed if you make one mistake you simply won't win. It's all in the preperation, and the journey, therein lies the fun.
Broken my ass. I had a better time with the gameplay in VIII than all of the games this gen combined. Working as intended.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.

Of course he isn't. The music was also good. |
I had to LOL hard at this. Only because I agree and was thinking the same thing. Triple Triad was still the best thing about the game though
