Lol... it's probably ND sabotaging them so that Uncharted 3 ends up looking better than KZ3 :P

Thank you captain obvious. However, that still doesn't explain why "Poor Halo"

lol killzone is playstation's halo, and since halo reach is coming out, i thought it was really going to show the competition how graphics are done, but killzone is looking to up the ante. While unrelated, that being "Poor Halo", its just something that comes to mind whenever I think of killzone.
btw, I think halo reach is going to be awesome (i am terrible at halo though)!!!
Since this thread is about Killzone 3 however, Killzone 3 is going to be awesome (never played 2 though)!!!!!

KZ2 was a graphics king...Halo 3 still outsold it. So I don't think "poor Halo" is very accurate. I mean, look at it this way, a game with Vastly superior graphics cannot outsell one with "outdated" graphics. Trolling aside, the KZ series is one of a few reasons I wish I could justify a PS3...but I barely have time to play my 360...hey, if you know anybody looking to get rid of a phat : )

The problem that people have, is that (as anyone who has done any programming could tell you)
int x == 2: while(x > 1){ x =1: }
Will use 100% of a computer's processing power (well, it won't because there are limits to how much processing power the computer will give to it, but you get my point) and, if left long enough will use 101% of a computer's ram
The point is, whenever any developer says they have maxed a console, they are blowing smoke. It is ALWAYS possible to write code in a more efficient manner, thus allowing the same level of graphics etc while using less processing power.
So either they are blowing smoke, or they actually meant to say that they have squeezed out as much as they can without hitting either the limit of their ability to program or the limit of how much time they can put into the game in order to still make a decent profit |

Well... actually Killzone2 was developed on those standards. Killzone3 is 720 and 60FPS technically because of 3D. Even if it is 30FPS [which it likely will be, they've said themselves that staying at constant 60 is difficult but a solid 30 thanks to their improvements because of 3D wouldn't be], that's still damn impressive. They're fixing everything people complained about Killzone 2 on the technical front. Input lag, no load screens similar to what was done in Uncharted 2 and GoW3 [likely only in single-player though but would be cool if they found a way to make multiplayer seemless], larger areas [10x what killzone 2 was capable of according to them], all while still improving visuals.
OT: I don't see what's wrong with this. It's not like they gave this statement for all their games. Before KZ2 releases they said themselves they were using 60% of the SPU load.
Its kinda hard to push a processor to the max. The only thing that really specifies the 'max' of the PS3 processor is its cooling capabilities of its fans/heatsink. They'll push it to its boiling point and then say its 'maxed out'.
For example, a 2.8Ghz 6-core AMD processor can be overclocked to 5Ghz PER CORE using a liquid nitrogen cooler. 'maxing' out a processor is a relative term. Its full capability is based on your ability to keep it from melting itself down, and supplying enough power to it to do the task at hand. Of course you aren't going to get a 233mhz Pentium to overclock to 10 Ghz because it doesn't have the conductive capacities to pull enough amps, and even if you tried, it would still melt regardless of what you were cooling it with.
The PS3 processor won't be maxed for a while. The Phats might be maxed soon enough, but eventually there will be a firmware update with a hidden feature that allows developers to overclock processors, especially in the Slim, to take better advantage of 3D capabilities.. etc.
A lot of people moan and complain when devs talk about how they think they are pushing the PS3 to the limits. I love it, because these developers keep pushing each other to top what was done before; it's great.
It's better than having a console where every single goddam developer chooses to use the U3 engine; pathetic.
