Forums - Gaming - Do any of the Halo titles deserve critical acclaim?

I have every Halo game. They are all fantatic games. Not everyone likes every game out there. But you cant deny that even by the 3rd iteration 11+ million people were still willing to buy Halo. That tells it is worth it's praise.

look mate you posted minor changes nothing ground breaking. I for one wont be answering in 20 years the game that first used the butt of your gun to kill enemies LOL I will admit for a console the halo franchise has helped microsoft spin into the minds of adolescents easier than before for their money but as groundbreaking titles, please these things have been on PC for years nothing groundbreaking about Halo

Well how much did Galaxy 2 re-inavate the 3d platforming games?.

do you think galaxy 2 deserves its 10's its been getting?. i do

the same way i think the Halo games deserve their scores.

so dont be acting like a bitter 12 year old fanboy who is just upset cos the isn't a FPS on the wii that could hope to be as good as or as succesful as halo...

And oh yeah i bet you thought the original Goldeneye on N64 was just a Doom clone too right?, or are you even old enough to remember that game?.

There's nothing wrong with taking the better parts from other games, but there are many people who mistaken credit Bungie for inventing everything except possibly the wheel.

The problem with Halo is not that others did it before on PC, it's that others did it better before on PC.

That's a weak argument. Bungie was the first to successfully implement a FPS on a console.

I think most would agree that's not true, as Rare did it before Bungie.

Rare was not successful at implementing the controls in a way that made sense, and they failed to make anything that could compete with Halo on the fun scale. Thus my statement still holds true. Bungie was the first to successfully implement a FPS on a console.

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

Blinded by Microsoft hype and PR. Well at least Apple have just become a bigger company than Microsoft, times are a changing for the better

Ok so now you're saying anyone who plays halo never played FPS before it and making that look like its fact.

I was very much into FPS games when the first halo came out, hell i started on the original Doom, and was a very big fan of FPS games.

I used to love playing Quake online, same with Half Life DM, And TFC, so dont talk for everyone like your opinion is fact, fair enough if you dont like the game you dont like it.

But its just stupid to try and deny that such a high selling game (Look at halo 3 thats this gen look how much its sold) would get such good scores and sell so much if it was a bad game, you sound like someone who is just bitter...

Let me ask you what FPS games do you like? or do you even like FPS games since you seem to say halo takes from every other FPs isn't the same true for 80% of shooters out there.

And isn't what you said about Halo CE true for just about many an old game?.

Hell if the Original Half life was released now it wouldn't get the same kind of fame it did back then same for many an other FPS too etc etc....

Since then the has been better games, but for their time they deserve it.

And look to my comment about halo 3 to see that halo still sells today, and Reach will only enforce that point when its released and goes on to sell 10+Mil and gets scores over 95+...

Please don't put words in my mouth.

Look, there's definitely something fun about playing games with people in the same room, which is something that console games are better than PC games for.

But I don't know how you wouldn't feel tremendously underwhelmed by Halo if you had been gaming on PC.  The single player campaign was plagued by horribly repetitive level design, and the multiplayer was limited to having a few people over to your house.  Of course the latter has been addressed, but I'm sorry... online gaming on consoles is (in general) horrible.  Matchmaking, no dedicated servers, no mods, limited number of players... online play from Halo 2 or 3 can't even hold a candle to the original Quake.

What FPS games do I prefer?  Without a doubt, Half Life 2 is the greatest single player FPS.  6 years later and still nothing comes close (maybe Portal).

For multiplayer, lately I mostly play Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.  Although I'm sure I've put a ton more hours into Counter-Strike (original and Source).

Halo:

Stop talking like what you think is fact!

Opinions my friend. When you work that out you'll stop being so bullish and foolish.

You think Half Life 2 is the best SP FPS. I think it's overated. I like it, but I prefer both Halo SP and KZ2 for that matter. HL2 was good, but had unecessary parts to it's game. And the gravity gun became way to gimmicky. But then thats my opinion.

Personally if I had to take 1 FPS with me to an island it would be Halo.

Please realise your opinion is not fact. But then it makes neither me nor you wrong. Live with it. Thats what makes us human. :)

Yes I do believe the Halo games deserve all the critical acclaim they get. With the exception of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark there isn't any FPS's that I have played more than Halo 1-3.

Yes ALL OF THEM!

Long Live SHIO!

How exactly am i putting words in your mouth?.

in your last comment you clearly said that anyone that played and enjoyed halo so much must of only started with halo as their first FPS and couldn't of had any other experance with FPS.

Halo 3 MP has more then a few people playing online at a time but you wouldn't know that since you're not a fan.

And reach beta had over 2 million players playing it, so for a game thats so over rated and bad in your opinion even if you do like to talk like your opinion is fact, thats alot of people for a beta and for such a bad game right?.

so tell me if the games are so bad why do people keep coming back to it?.

If the multi player is so bad why is the such a large online community around it with millions of people playing?.

I just think you must not like console FPS games and thats you're problem and you're opinion, as imo the only people that dont like the halo games (For the small few that there is) is

1. PC elitest who think everything on the PC is better then everything else...

2. Bitter PC fanboys who are just upsit Bungie cancelled Halo development on the PC and switched to the xbox.

hell i remember when it was in Development for the Pc first when it was an RTS kind of game it was getting alot of buzz back then too.

so i can understand how some pc players where upset when such a great game many of them was waiting for switched to a Console exclusive.

And Britney Spears sold 85 million albums, does that make her a fantastic musician?

Clearly you misunderstood my comment about limited players.  You can't play a game with more than 16 people in it.  Lag issues are far more prominent than if there were dedicated servers, and one player out of the bunch gets a host advantage.  Not to mention host migration, which sucks. No mods limits gameplay, and there are no community developed maps.  Sorry to break this to you, but these are all huge negatives.

As much as you try to explain away my disregard toward console FPS, it truly is grounded in fact.

I never had nor wanted an XBox (I'm not anti-console, I had a PS2 at the time), so I was excited when I heard Halo was coming to PC.  And I purchased it, hoping for a great game, but I almost quit 3/4 of the way through because of the horrificly repetitive level design (horrific is my opinion, repetitive level design is not, the game is notorious for it's copy/paste levels).  I still own Halo, but it never gets put in, there are far better games worth my attention.

So, there you go.  To gain a little perspective, imagine if the next Halo comes out and there's only 4 or 6 player multiplayer, 2 levels to play multiplayer, and 1 game mode, and you'll have an idea of how "impressive" Halo and console FPS's are to someone who has been playing the games on PC.

Whenever PC gamers complain about gameplay/features lacking on console, they're always "whining," or "PC elitists..." but really, you console guys should be demanding those features get put in your games.  Modern Warfare 2 on PC became much more limited, like the console versions, but it should really be the opposite way around, with console gamers demanding more from their games.  But alas, I must be dreaming...

Hey mate dont get wound up Halo on the pc is like a mark of 60 tops on the console it's more because microsoft paid the magazines to have high scores, it's all hype

I will reiterate one last time. Opinions guys. I dont much like HL2 compared to other shooters. And I cant stand TF2. Does that make me wrong and anyone else right. NO! It's opinions. PC gamers just make up some BS because they cant understand why people can love a FPS on console more.

I actually prefer console FPS's now. And yes I still play PC FPS's from time to time. I think they are overated.

Get over PC dudes. PEople love Halo because they think it's a great game. Not because they are lesser minded or wrong. IT'S AN OPINION!.
