Final Fantasy Showdown Round #1 -- Rate FF7!

6.5/10 - not a bad game but it's overrated.

- First of all, Sephiroth is not the greatest villian of all time. He's just a momma's boy who killed a flower girl behind her back. I don't see what's make him so badass.

- Next you have Cloud, a spikey-haired metrosexual who has no clue two chicks dig them, suffers from amnesia, pretends to be someone he isn't, and goes crazy half-way through the game. He's not a good protagonist. Cecil, Zidane and everyone from FFVI are better.

- As for the other characters: Cait Sith is terrible. He adds nothing to the story and is useless in battles. His design is awful - robotic cat on top of a fat moogle. Yuffie = annoying.

- The story was alright but went downhill in the second disk with Cloud and all.

- Some bad translation.

I did enjoy the combat despite it being average and easy.

So when comparing it with FF games, it's being compared on a scale where most games are better then it... and only 1 game is worse.


While when comparing it to the JRPG population as a whole... there are a lot of JRPGs better, but there are even more worse... then FF7.

I personally rated it like I felt back then when I played it.

cus TBH I recently replayed FF7 & FF 8 after getting them from PSN and I seemed to enjoy FF8 a lot lot more. But back in the day I loved FF7 much much more than FF8.

But I'll stick to the rating that I felt it had at launch as it seems fair like that.

Has this happened to any of you before?

Some games age better than others I guess...

not me, i dislike ff8 when I played it. i like the 1st disc, everything after that was meh. *spoiler* spending 3 disc searching for a girl is not my mojo.

Final Fantasy didn't breathe life before this game. :D

The charcters , music, gameplay, exploration and the story, FF7 had them all
FF7 is still the best RPG that combined all these elements together

Deep in the ocean, high up the skies and into space (you go everywhere)

the amount of content this game had was insane, not to mention it had the most epic final battle theme xD

Final Fantasy peaks with this and 6 for me. Loved the cyber-punk world and the bizzare non-sensical science. Has some interesting characters (and some crap ones admitedly), loved the majority of the mini-games and towns. It had some pretty good story moments: Aeris' death, Red XIII finding out about his father, Cloud being controlled by Sephiroth etc.

I downloaded it on PSN and am playing it on PSP now and I'm actually quite enjoying the battles; the materia system isn't quite as bad as I originally thought. It hasn't aged quite as badly as I thought, especially on the smaller hand-held screen.
