I look at it like this.
I only think one Final Fantasy game (main series) is bad as an JRPG. That being FF2, due to it's innovative system having some serious flaws.
So when comparing it with FF games, it's being compared on a scale where most games are better then it... and only 1 game is worse.
While when comparing it to the JRPG population as a whole... there are a lot of JRPGs better, but there are even more worse... then FF7.

I personally rated it like I felt back then when I played it.
cus TBH I recently replayed FF7 & FF 8 after getting them from PSN and I seemed to enjoy FF8 a lot lot more. But back in the day I loved FF7 much much more than FF8.
But I'll stick to the rating that I felt it had at launch as it seems fair like that.
Has this happened to any of you before?
Some games age better than others I guess...

not me, i dislike ff8 when I played it. i like the 1st disc, everything after that was meh. *spoiler* spending 3 disc searching for a girl is not my mojo.
